whats wrong with being racist? so long as we arent out cutting necks with machetes i dont see why having an opinion about a different race or culture is taboo or socially unnacceptable.
and you know, race is just one of them, then we have the trickle down effect to religion, and then to politics, and then who is your favorite singer on american idol, and what football team you cheer for... theres a million reasons to discriminate against people, race is just one of the primary ones! look deeper inside people to find reasons to dislike them! thats where tolerance comes in... we tolerate others who are different. hahaha =P [im trying to be funny and make a point sorry if i failed] uhhhh, yeah... im sure marlon is a really cool guy and id probably enjoy hanging out with him, but im sooooooo tired of the cliche' comic relief black guy getting thrown into every movie even when its not appropriate. in this case id say it is appropriate, and we got our glorious white guy ripcord figure so throw your hands in the air. at least will smith isnt duke. hahah also, i dont check any posts after i post in them so dont bother responding to me! i wont be here. Now I know what ol' Wayan's uses his accellorator suit on and it is not for running fast. More like bumpin ol Scarlet faster at super high rates of speed!
These scenes are will be in the unrated bootlegger cut of the film!

Marlanes would be acceptable if this was the spoof movie like "Disaster Movie" or "Meet the Spartans", but in the last big chance and effort to really shine the GI JOE brand in the age of terrorosim and turmoil, when American kids need a shining beacon and resemebalnce to what GI JOE was about "The Real American Hero" as cliche and 80s as that is, it holds a lot of meaning for me. The rendition of this show turns out, its actors and the implied messages it has in it from Red Communist Hollywood not speaking up about it and just accepting it is doing the meaning of GI JOE a major diservice.
I guess it needs to be James Bond so we can appease the world and show them we are accepting socilism and a one world government under UN Military control is a better representation of our GI JOE force than the real AMERICAN heros they were...

Funny thing about the UN military. I always thought that what cobra was all about! A real life version anyway.

Someone mention Omar Epps, and Terence Howard, other actors portraying the character, and that is the point I was looking for. SO, I thank you for that. It's a good a valid point, but bare in mind Marlon Waynes has theatre background and a well accomplished dramatic actor, but sadly is known for his "funny black guy" roles which I'm sure is not why he took up acting to begin with. He even mentioned he had the chance to be a "Bad @$$" in the film so I' sure he was excited to get away from "normal" type casted role. I haven't read the scripts, so it may be he is the funny guy, but, I don't recall anything that was epic about Ripcord anyway, so why not?
Someone else said Marol Waynes will bring in the teens...YES...also another logical point indeed. Going to the commerical aspect of selling an already commercial property. I see the logic in a way. But Weezus states above, what's wrong with being "Racist" but every meaning of the word-everything. You could talk about and describe the trinkledown effect as being linked to politics, and Americna Idol, and so forth. But you seem to forget about the "Boiling Point" effect. The opinions that begin with "racist" boils over into missunderstands that can be taken on a very personally and have adverse affects on everyone. Especially those offended. I'm to understand this being fictional character, and while I'm not a fan of Marlon Waynes, or his movies, I don't see how his race effects the role. The character is African-American now. I think it's just that fact now, so it has to be dealt with and accepted. Nothing more can be said about it. You hate actor, fine. You hate his movies, fine. You don't know the guy, and you haven't seem in this, so what's there to really argue about? It's not the end of the world. |
