Reading his memory about the kid in Japan and the little boy who never walked before really had me choking up and put a big smile on my face. I would love to meet Slaughter. One of my favorites back then. And by the interview alone you can tell his love for the GI Joe brand. Awesome interview and a really awesome guy.

I remember him wrestling in the AWA on ESPN in the afternoons when I came home from school. he was America's champion and took on the likes of Larry Zbyszko and the Bulshivieks then GI Joe the Cartoon was on later and of course Transformers. Man the 80's were awesome my daughter loves 80's stuff she watches the cartoons over and over with me. Or this classic

I never liked that the Joes brought in a pro-wrestler, because I hated pro-wrestling as a kid and still do to this day. And I didn't like that on the cartoon he was characterized as pretty much a super-powered Mary Sue who was instantly vaulted to the Joe's top ranks, had the strength of Superman and was considered the greatest living military leader by Cobra. It still sounds ridiculous to this day. But I did like his performance on the show and think his figure and the bio given on the file card fit in well with the line. I have met him in person too and definitely like the man and his continuing enthusiasm for the brand.
He has indicated that he was very disappointed he couldn't be included in the movie G.I. Joe: Retaliation because the WWE would not allow it. Apparently it was all set to go but they wouldn't sign off on it so it got nixed. That is unfortunate because it certainly couldn't have made the movie any worse. |

Definitely a great read. I met him a couple years back. He was in my home town for a Veterans day parade. A friend had told me that he was going to be at a local park before the parade so I left work early to go and meet him. I got to talk with him for a bit and he seemed like a real genuine guy. I got some pics and He autographed my Marauders file card. Way taller than I expected btw. Definitely an awesome experience.
