Was disappointed the game got cancelled because the card art was great. Do you know why it was cancelled?

These artworks re excellent pieces. Did you ever think of publishing them in a book?
By the way, this game was really fascinating, because I don't remember many official releases that are trying to put together ARAH, New Sculpt and even modern characters. Thank you for sharing them. |

The game got cancelled because the licence ran out. DeNA had the licence for 2+ years, it was supposed to expire on Dec 31 2014, but Hasbro allowed them to stretch it to Jan 5th. Hence the game was shut-down in Jan this year. It was real sad, when we had to finally pull the plug. Last edited by Atomichermit; 10-17-2015 at 02:13 PM.. |

Hello Guys,
It has been a while, and I have been busy with life, but I finally managed to sort and catalogue most of the (character art). And since this site helped me a lot, it is only fair that I share all the art with you guys. I have uploaded most of the character art here : https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...3v?usp=sharing And here is a little story to go along with it, All of the art was coloured and animated. But I never coloured any of the Character art. I did the concepts, the design and sometimes the line art. And our inhouse artists coloured (sometimes) and animated all of them. All were 4 frame animations. The higher Rarity cards had more complex animations. I designed 99.9% of the legendary card designs. ( 2-3 legendary cards were designed when I was on leave). Almost all the characters were based on the toys, but before the licence expired and our company closed down, Hasbro trusted us to make use of other properties(Comics and Animation) to create new characters ( this is my personal triumph, that I created/adapted these from comics and TV shows, and toy prototypes and HASBRO approved these). Some like: Billy: ( no toys existed then, so I designed this character's costumes in 2013, as a homage to 2 of the most famous GIJOE Ninjas). Epic, on Storm Shadow, and Legendary, on Snake Eyes (I loved doing this character) https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/f...rcaNKY0UcHjrb9 I recently found out that Hasbro made of TOY based of my design, in 2016 !!! https://www.yojoe.com/action/16/billy.shtml Dusty: ( Traitor Cobra -Version), This was based on the Animation. He was fun to do. ToyHouse Cobra Commander Robots: ( I created these based the Animation, while the Rare is slightly polished version of the animation design, the EPIC one is my own creation). Mainframe (female): It was based on an obscure comic I think, so I had to design her costume from scratch. Fatal Fluffies (sorry):The weirdest characters I had to design, based on the Animation. Water Robots:(again, sorry):The second weirdest characters I had to design, based on the Animation. Tommy Talltree & The Spiritwalker : Characters Based on obscure episodes of the GIJOE Animation, again HASBRO approved these designs, despite them not being based on Toys. (Krake) Cobra Commander : Design based on an IDW comic Character. Crystal Ball (legendary): I had to create a brand new design for this weird guy, based on some obscure comic/animation, as Hasbro has made only one design and we need a legendary card. ( one of the best cards that I designed). Liela: Another character based on the Animation. Cold Slither: Torch and Zartan, adapted from the animation, some of the last characters that I did. The heavy metal fan in me loved doing these guys! Some notable cards Beachhead: First legendary card, you can see a radical change in the animations from here. The characters now started to really move ! Toxo-Zombie and Duke: First 4 Star legendary characters, Toxo Zombie and Duke were based off of prototype toys that had yet to be launched ( this is 2014), but Hasbro approved my designs and we got them into the game. Hooded Zartan (Legendary): this along with the Crystal-ball character, are my most favourite characters that I designed the cards for. The process was like this : Design/sketch > Lineart >Colour >Animation. (again this is 99% of the known character art that I have) and that I could get my hands on after the company closed down. I was one of the 3 artists still working after all my colleagues were let go.( I was the clean-up crew). So it was my job to catalogue and archive all the art that was in our drives, and in our computers. Some of it is unfortunately lost. Most of the GIFs and PNGs that you see in the folders, have been meticulously saved and catalogue from original PSDs that I had to gather from all sources, and in some cases I had to reconstruct them from images that I found online (https://gijoebattleground.fandom.com...tleground_Wiki). It has been a labour of love, and I am happy to share. I still have all the PSDs, other ancillary art, animations, Backgrounds and Maps( I made a LOT of them), but there is no way to show them off, as they need special software, that I no longer have access to. Maybe someday I'll get to show them off. I cannot stress enough, that I was a part of a wonderfully talented team, with in-house artists and external contractors. One of the artists and wonderful person, (Jay Zhou) that did a lot of the animations, is sadly no longer with us. So here you see all the art and animation by my TEAM from DeNA Vancouver. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hope you like our art, and share our story ! Have a great weekend and stay safe guys ! -Ashish https://atomichermit.artstation.com/ http://joshiart.blogspot.com/ |
