I just received my post-Kickstarter order, which included my first K-9. I thought it would be too big, but it looks just right!
Now I have a "Dogmeat" for my Vault Dweller.

Is there a reliable method for splitting MTF upper legs undamaged in order to switch out the lower legs starting at the knee?

I'd suggest heating up the leg using hot water or a blow dryer and pushing out the pin.

Yeah, just heat the leg and the pin comes out fairly easily. If you have a small, flat head screwdriver, you can pop the upper or lower leg off the pin from behind the knee. No splitting required (or possible really).
