I'm still upset that they never made a Royal Guard for the Jumbo Star Wars line.

Maybe it'll show up at Five Below.

The line should have had swivel arm battle grip. I would have picked up a figure or two if it had that feature. Instead... the straight arm does not say GI Joe to me especially at that size and at that price point.
One little omission destroyed the whole line for me. |

I kind of saw it coming to be honest. The Joes were a lot more in price that the Star Wars figures. I bet the tooling involved sense the Joes had more articulation. It does suck I would have loved to see the Cobra guys as well. I do agree the line was doomed from the start.
Also, I agree; the line was doomed, IMHO, because of the prices. Maybe if they had shown a Cobra Trooper instead of Zap, they'd have gotten more orders. I liked the idea and the execution, it was just for $100+, I can buy a lot of REAL Joes. Quote:
Dolemite, Five-Below might be TOO cheap, but if they hit there it would be amazing.

I still haven't pulled trigger on any of these. I should though being a fan and wanting to support the Brand. Problem is, wave one (outside of SE, and maybe RnR,) aren't very attractive. I realize the order they are going in but at this rate,(assuming the line is a success), it would take us 5 years just to get to the 1986 line.
Now if they would of switched up the waves and through us a mix of say SS, SE, Destro, Zartan, Serpentor, and CC, then maybe a lot more would of been on board. Sad truth is, Zap was a zzzz zzzzz line killer. |

I was enjoying getting these figures but as others have expressed it would have been a better approach if they'd started with a Hall of Fame based release schedule and gave us the more interesting character choices/designs to start with instead of just working through the 1982 O13 lineup. It would have been really nice to have gotten to some of those really cool/iconic Cobra designs like Cobra Commander, Destro, Zartan, Baroness, Storm Shadow etc. Likewise some of the more interesting looking Joes from the more popular Sunbow era like Duke, '85 Snake Eyes, Flint, Roadblock, Shipwreck, Gung Ho, Lady Jaye, etc. would have probably drawn more attention and gave us a better looking collection than focusing on the O13--half of whom were relatively plain looking green shirts and as characters were less impactful/memorable/interesting relative to many of their 83 and beyond teammates.
I picked up the others but was on the fence about Zap thinking I might wait to see if he showed up at discount. If this Jumbo GI Joe line was to become 50 or 100 characters deep (and I still had room for them all) then Zap would suddenly make a lot more sense as some to keep filling out the ranks, but realistically how many collectors would have space/budget/desire to collect 100 of these? For the typical casually collector who would have only gotten a handful of these how many would have picked Zap to be one of those handful? For that matter, if you had space to fit only 25 of these figures in your collection, how many would have picked Zap as one of the 25? I know Zap has his fans and I'm sorry it looks like he (and the other 500 or so vintage Joes that came out between '82 and '94) won't get the chance to be added to what I really believe would have been a cool collection had it kept going but Zap seemed like someone being put out in the line way to early for there to be that much desire for him. I'm glad they tried to do this and hope somehow despite this maybe the line can go on just with a slightly new approach that will focus on putting out some of the "All Star" choices first to help kick the line in to high gear and get things going. Then once we get through some of those top iconic figures we can re explore some of the less memorable vintage figures like Zap.

Apparently there are too few of us who truly admire the beginnings of the ARAH line and more who appreciate GIJOE as a whole entity encompassing various characters over several decades. (not saying you cant be both)
Now for me, and a select few that fall into too niche of a category, reliving the series of figures in original release order was fun and nostalgic, and to me these were ONLY for display in package. However the masses remember GIJOE as a whole, with the dreaded seven, as the characters that were most popular and stand out. But again for me...not speaking for too many others obviously. The 82 line up will always be at the top of my favorites and representing them as they originally came, as straight arm which is all I ever had of them, was right up my alley. For Star Wars releasing the favorites worked because it started out that way. We always had Luke Leia Han Chewie Vader and Threepio. For GIJOE I suspect largely due to the cartoon, Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, Storm Shadow, Scarlett, to a lesser extent Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Shipwreck, Flint and Lady Jaye, were the standouts. They targeted the smaller market and one that was not willing to pay what the retail was. I could only get one but if they were 50 or 60 each? I would have gotten all of the O13 eventually. The larger figures only increase in retail price, I would have loved a large Wampa, but no way I would pay 350+ for it.

Wait, so how much did these things cost exactly? And they're just ARAH figures blown up to 6'', right? No gimmicks or anything I'm missing?

Rock N Roll is available for 60 right now but they retailed for 119 to start. They are starting to go clearance.

I think if the plan was ONLY to do the 82 line, straight arm would be fine. But if they ever considered expanding beyond 82--and why wouldn't they?!--why not do swivel from the start? Because I can tell you, NO ONE would have purchased 1983 + figures as straight arms.
