Sad thing is I remember about a year and half ago. The Hub was the Channel I kept on all the time. but yeah they started hitting the bottom of the barrel about last march. Oh well Prime and Renegades were great and I bet MLP and and the New TF show will keep people interested.

After hasbro killed off G.i. Joe Renegades the hub had this coming.
A Season 2 wood have been grate. After hasbro started the TF movies they stoped careing about G.i. Joe. I know G.i. Joe has had 2 movie's with a 3rd on it's way. But the toy line & cartoons are all but gone. |

Major blow for Hasbro's efforts to become a multimedia company, and an even worse sign for G.I. Joe.
People always like to say "They should show a new G.I. Joe Cartoon on Cartoon Network!" And yet, they fail to realize that Cartoon Network has to WANT to show a G.I. Joe cartoon. Or any other network that Hasbro doesn't own a large portion of. Now, even if they make a new toon, and even if it's the greatest animated program to ever be made (spoiler alert: it won't be) there's no guarantee ANY network is going to agree to pay Hasbro to air it. A Disney buyout is about the best thing that could happen, but quite frankly it's still unlikely. Disney will let Hasbro flounder for a few more years to devalue their stock so they can buy them more cheaply before they'd try to take them over now. Especially given that Disney would possibly be in a similar situation to Marvel and the X-Men and Spider-Man franchises, only with Transformers: Paramount would continue to have the movie rights even though Disney would own Transformers. Bottom line: Between Star Wars and Marvel, Disney has all the traction they need with the young/teen boys segment. Buying Hasbro isn't really giving them anything they need (in fact, they'd lose the licensing money Hasbro was paying them to produce Star Wars and Marvel toys), so the only way Disney's likely to do it is if they can get Hasbro for dirt cheap. |

But the toy line & cartoons are all but gone. Seriously people. If "just caring enough" was a guarantee for big success in the ratings and on the toy shelves, every single cartoon out there would be a smash hit and Toys R Us would have to double the size of its' stores for all the toys they'd be selling. There is no "exact science" to making a hit. Movies with hundreds of millions of dollars in marketing and production costs sometimes bomb (and the toylines that accompany them generally tank as well). Sometimes movies that ARE enormous hits still aren't enough to make a toyline successful (See: Avatar). If there were any "sure fire" way to make something successful, every business in the world would be doing it, every single time they made a product. Meanwhile, there have been two movies (with a presumed third upon the way) and Two and a half attempts at an animated series in the last 10 years for G.I. Joe. Which is a heck of a lot more money and effort than many franchises have gotten from the companies that own or license them in that same timeframe. Last edited by Jmacq1; 09-18-2014 at 06:59 AM.. |

Though I can see this as the "kick in the ass" Hasbro needs to explore new ways of getting its content out there. As I said in this thread and elsewhere, with Netflix's recent push for original programming and its sheer availability (again, greater than practically any channel on tV), I think it is worth Hasbro exploring maybe giving Netflix some exclusive content for its kids section.

Well this pretty much kills any chances of a new GI Joe cartoon. If Hasbro couldn't get a GI Joe cartoon to work on their own network I can't image that other channels are lined up wanting one.
And I have to agree things really aren't looking that well for Hasbro as a multimedia company. They lose the network so they will have to shop around for a deal for somewhere to show the new Transformers cartoon. Transformers movies are losing their domestic appeal so China has to be the main market for Transformers movies. The other Hasbro films aren't burning up the box office. Although Netflix might very well be answer for Hasbro. Netflix is already airing reruns of A Real American Hero, Transformers, Beast Wars, Transformers Prime, and My Little Pony, so Netflix does have an interest in Hasbro programing as part of the kids market Netflix has. Maybe skip the traditional networks and go Netflix all the way since Netflix loves to talk about original programs you can't see on cable. |

To be brutally honest, I think a more pragmatic solution is to use Netflix. It has better market penetration than ANY given channel (effectively everyone with a cell, computer, console or even TV has access to it), and I think it is more worth the effort to maybe give Netflix some exclusive kids content (like, say, that new Transformers cartoon?) and let Netflix handle promotion than trying to find a "traditional" outlet for it or future Joe cartoons.
I find it telling that the first page, the first thing on the screen, of the kids section are links to Transformers Prime and GI Joe Renegades. I'm not sure you could really get better positioning I can watch RAH and Renegades(and Transformers) anytime I want on my streaming Netflix. Slammed through about half a dozen last weekend with my son and cousin. Lots of fun. |

I'm still watching ARAH at 6:30 am EST, Mon -Fri, on Hub's HD channel 1511 (Comcast). It's my daily morning guilty pleasure before I go to work. From the cable schedule guide I see it still being televised in that time slot. I hope that continues for the time being.

The channel was only available through special packages around here. They really had no chance competing against Disney, Nick, and Cartoon Network who are all on standard packages.
