Just got the mystery box. Total waste of money. Serves me right, though. I knew in my heart it would be more useless Greek shit, but I thought, "No, how much of that crap can they possibly have left after the last 5 iterations..."
apparently, the answer is even more than before. Grossly disappointed. Congrats to those who dodged the bullet. |

You do *NOT* have to use specific brands on Joes or HACKS (or any other action figure line, really); but you *DO* have to use watercolors. Just look for brands that say 'water wash-up' and you'll be okay. Oil-based paints are made for model kits where the paint 'melting' into the plastic is a deliberate intention to get that 'factory gloss' paintjob like actual cars have. Action figures aren't made with the same plastics and that 'melting' effect can be ruinous to the figure.
When painting action figures, always dis-assemble it as much possible before doing any work. You'll no doubt want to sand/file/trim down the joints where one piece rubs against another to prevent the paint from scraping right off upon posing; and you'll definitely want to wash the figure's parts with dish soap before painting to get rid of any exudates that will interfere with laying down a good coat of paint. For durability, sanding/filing/trimming the joints and using a good sealant are more important than the brand of paint used, imho. I use Americana brand DuraClear Ultra Matte sealant on my figures and I've *never* had any chipping or scraping (except when I get lazy about the sanding/filing/trimming bit, lol). That stuff is invisible concrete, imho. As a first-timer you probably shouldn't spend money on the high-price paint brands until you're confident in your skills and techniques. Practice with a figure you don't mind 'wasting'. I use Vallejo Game Color, Scale 75 (game and fantasy line) and Citadel (Games Workshop) with great results. People also have good things to say about Reaper, Army Painter, and Tamiya acrylic. To start you won't need many colors so it will not cost much (~4$ per paint). Some brands have starter sets (Scale75, Citadel). Get a decent brush (in my experience at ~$8 the quality good). |

Images of the box contents are getting posted to the BFS Facebook group.
I really look forward to them selling off all of their glow in the dark and emerald accessories. Those parts have been in every Mystery box so far as I recall. |

I got the fist 3 mystery boxes but skipped on this one.
The 1st box made me the nut I am today. It is great value if you're starting out and want a taste of everything on the menu. What I liked most: Mixed factory-painted accessories, awesome sticker sheets, some unpainted parts you can't get anywhere else and the surprise figure. What I liked not as much: Colorful and glow in the dark greek sets. A lot of it.. i'm afraid, no I'm sure I will regret a few amazing parts...

Just saw pics and I'm glad I skipped that box.
Still a good deal and all. But those lollipop-colored Greek sets are unpaintable. Unlike the opaque ones..

Those are great Xero - you might have just lost me some money but gained some for BFS if I copy it.
