Yep, the sailor(or is he a seal in the movie mythos?) is in the game! See an image of the 2 here!
From Ars Technica: Quote:
G.I. Joe is one of those franchises that's been around for longer than most people realize. Though many younger gamers probably aren't familiar with the history of the toy line, many of us grew up in the 1980s watching the cartoon series and playing with Hasbro's action figures. After having spent some time checking out EA's upcoming tie-in to G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra, I can honestly say that this is a game that will bank a great deal on the nostalgia many of us have for the 80s cartoon, though whether or not the game will be strong enough to stand on its own remains to be seen.
At EA's hotel suite, an early build of G.I. Joe was on display. We were told that the story will actually take place after the film, so it won't be a "play the movie" experience. However, none of us were actually able to play it; we were given a walkthrough by members of the development team who also explained the various mechanics. On a basic level, this is going to be a run-and-gun game, but it will have a strong multiplayer element. From what we were shown, the game is really meant to be played cooperatively between friends, as a number of mechanics (like using vehicles) can't be fully exploited by a single player. Surprisingly, online co-op won't be included in the game, so players will have to be on the same console if they want to experience the game to its fullest. During the demo, we got to see characters like Snake Eyes, Duke, and Heavy Duty on display, each with their unique combat style: Snake Eyes featured a mix of pistol-shooting and melee attacks, Duke relied on small arms, and I'm pretty sure that Heavy Duty's gatling gun is fused to his body. It turns out that there will be twelve playable Joes in the game. So far, the list includes Snake Eyes, Scarlet, Ripcord, Heavy Duty, Duke, Gung-Ho, and Shipwreck. Many of these characters have to be unlocked by playing through the game, though. When I asked about Shipwreck, I was told that his look has been updated so he, "doesn't look like a member of the Village People." I was also told that Shipwreck's parrot will be able to drop bombs on targets, which sounded entertaining, but since I didn't get to see him, I can't actually testify as to how the man or his bird look. The other exciting news about the game's character roster is that four playable members of C.O.B.R.A. will be unlocked by beating the game. What I got to see of the gameplay looked solid, with certain minigames like "Satellite Strike" breaking up the monotony of the shooting sequences. There's even an item from the movie, the "accelerator suit" (shown in the teaser trailer when the ninjas are jumping through a bus window), that will grant characters enhanced speed and invincibility. That said, though, the game also looked incredibly rough, with flat textures and a few jagged edges. It turns out that we were actually looking at a pre-alpha verison of the game, though, and we were told the final engine will feature a lot more detail. Finally, the game is going to bank heavily on fond memories of the cartoon by including the G.I. Joe PSAs, as well as allowing players to find/unlock the bio-cards that used to be included on the backs of the action figure boxes. If G.I. Joe winds up being a solid game when it's released late this summer, it might arguably become the greatest piece of fan-service the gaming industry has served up to date. As it is now, it looks like it has potential to be a fun experience, but we're withholding final judgment until we get to see a more finalized build.

Hm. Wonder if you can play as Polly. Maybe as an easter egg mini-game. Could be pretty funny!

Bomb dropping parrot FTW. Glad he will be of use in this game, in the cartoon I remember him being a green Captain Obvious, with wings, a smart ass on a sailor's shoulder.

Bomb dropping Parrot sounds bad.. something I'd expect to see in a Lego game or something.

They NEED to get Frank Welker back to voice Polly in the game.

Hawk is a solid guess.
Considering he'll prob be some other character with a re-tooled skin. You could get a Hawk from a Duke character, just change his weapon/power set. I'd like to see Zartan, but that's prob not gonna happen, because he's like a second tier guy. |
