A Blu-Ray version would be a lot less compressed than a standard DVD. Quality would be better on the Blu-Ray for that reason alone, although most may not notice it immediately.
And I have to mention the fact that if decent prints of the cartoon still exist on film today then an HD transfer would benefit greatly from a Blu-Ray release and could be done which would be a hundred times better looking than what we have ever seen so far. Even if the show wasn't in HD originally or a standard (4x3 1.33) aspect does not mean it can't benefit from a Blu-Ray release. Unfortunately, the show is not worth the time or money to redo in HD and I am sure prints of the show may not even exist anymore or are in such bad condition that it couldn't be done unless a huge amount of money were spent to restore the prints.

Cartoons usually look better when upscaled, versus other video with people, etc being upscaled from the same DVD quality. I think if they wasted doing it on Blu-Ray, it'd be just unnecessarily expensive, and the original quality is kinda shitty anyways.
Unless they get the original masters and clean the shit out of them, I'd be okay with just DVD. Now, if they could do it in HD, it would be worth it to have it in HD, but only if the masters could be cleaned up and restored.
I just want them in some non-ghetto fashion, so I can pop in the disc and watch them on my 1080 tv. And wait 25 minutes on my sony BD player to play the thing.

It was pretty much a no brainer that we'd see the Sunbow episodes get re-released in time for the live action movie.
Not sure it was a great idea to go with Shout Factory, as they have a tendency to start to release things then stop halfway through because of "lack of sales".
They also have a tendency of dumping content directly from the broadcast masters with NO re-mastering, and they have used damaged master tapes to master DVD releases. The have been known to edited music and other content from their releases. Plus they offer NO subtitles for the deaf/head of hearing, as it's too costly.
The fact that the first set has the same number of discs/running time as the Rhino season 1; part 1 set is a really good indication that they'll just end up using the Rhino re-masters. That means incorrect openings, added sound effects, etc.
As for bonus features, wouldn't count on any, unless they just end up using the stuff produced by Rhino. None of the Shout Factory sets I've seen seem to have any bonus materials.
Would have rather seen Time Life get the licenses as they recently re-released the entire The Real Ghostbusters series, completely re-mastered and with a ton of bonus features.
So much for hoping for a *proper* DVD release of G.I.Joe. We'll either get a re-issue of the Rhino re-masters which suffer from the same problems that plauged Transfromers G1, or a dump of the 25 year old broadcast masters, with no re-mastering and will look like junk.
