Stair step... What a load of crap! So for joe it goes, introduce a cartoon but don't release toys till a year later and of course cancel it after one season. Push everything back for a new movie, delay that for 9 months then when it finally comes out only release 2 waves of figures( one that was already released 9 months earlier) and delay the great movie accurate figures that you had an extra 9 months to get ready by 4 months. Then have no real news of anything coming in the next year or 2. Yep I love the stair step on Joe. Working great.
No, I haven't been buying non stop since 1983. I grew up and got a life. But I did get bit by the nostalgic bug and have been buying this brand since 2007. Since then, in those 6 years as a customer, I have been utterly amazed and even left speechless at times at the decisions that have been made towards this line (not to mention SW and Marvel), how it is treated and it truly reeks of unprofessionalism, disorganization and outright stupidity.

I think the Club should sell the "Idiot's Guide to Understanding Hasbro" in the club store.

25th was wrapped in favor of Resolute. Had the film not been released that year, the product likely would have continued the transition to Resolute product anyway (And again, the 25th "branding" was pretty much done by mid-2008, from a retailer perspective). PoC ran its course, and was replaced by 30th, as what tends to happen with EVERY SINGLE TOYLINE OF THE PAST DECADE. Might as well complain that Hasbro "cancelled" The Legacy Collection for Vintage Collection 2010, or Transformers Energon was cancelled for the Cybertron line. It's one of those things I can "read the doublespeak" going on here, and see where it's relevant (despite having cartoons for years, both Transformers and Marvel have benefitted ENORMOUSLY to the films, and the followup material produced) but can also see that a lot of it is "investor speak" which doesn't have any bearing on us. In the case of Joe, I think Hasbro is still "waiting and seeing" what Retaliation will do for the brand. I do believe that they have ample time to get stuff together for some sort of fall 2014 push, including some sort of new media (be it a full fledged series or movie thing). Again, I think Joecon hit so early this year, that pretty much everything Hasbro is doing long term with the brand is largely reflective of what the movie and its product line do, information that just wasn't available right after the film's release.

How much more does Hasbro realistically need to see in order to give the brand some attention? Its not like paramount was going to make $300 million plus with "My Little Poney". Just....Please dont tell me "My Little Poney" was in the top 10...... Last edited by stillagijoefan; 05-01-2013 at 10:31 PM.. |

The fact that in a company with over two dozen major brands and licenses, across every major toy category, isn't wanting to talk about a brand that has routinely underperformed even with all the elements that made other brands major hits? GI Joe, while still a coveted legacy brand, is NOT a key part of Hasbro current brand strategies, and won't be until the brand starts doing better at retail. Basically, if a successful live action film can't get any momentum for Joe, there seriously isn't much that will. Quote:
Ouch, I can assume Transformers, SW, and Marvel. But what other 7 brands rounded out the top 10?

Still a bit perplexed that Hasbro is still touting Stretch Armstrong (granted, the movie is still in development slated for next year) and Micronauts as new brand concepts. Has Hasbro even done anything with Micronauts since re-acquiring the license?

I didn't see any "top 10" slides in what has shown up online. But keep in mind Hasbro has properties like Nerf (which has seen HUGE growth in the last decade), Play Doh, Playskool (which includes Chuck and Friends and the various Heroes lines), and Monopoly (and frankly, most of the most popular board games ever made)
But I guarantee My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop are higher on the "food chain" than GI Joe right now. |
