Jmacq1... 1. you are correct, it was a ninja's STRENGTH to be able to imitate another's style for the purposes of espionage. However Samurais were more similar to front line soldiers in their sword styles, armor, mentallity, theology, and Lifestyle. Ninja's were trained assasins, the very best mind you, but subversive in nature. 2. the 7 pack looks awesome!!! (except for the fact that Chuckles isn't wearing his original loud shirt. ALLEY-VIPER, LAMPREY, STRATO-VIPER, RIP-CORD, WET-SUIT, HIT AND RUN, and (yuck) even MINDBENDER's on point. 3. I agree with you, they need to stop bombarding us with repeat/repainted characters...

As for Matt Trakker I simply say: Get over it. He came, he went, there's no sign Hasbro's planning on trying something like that again anytime soon, and about 90 percent of the figures everyone was asking for are getting taken care of by the Cobra Island 7-packs.
The whole idea that he took a "slot" that would've been a much-desired classic figure we hadn't yet gotten is at least half falsehood...it's just as likely that "slot" would have been filled by another Cobra Commander, Duke, Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, or Destro. PS: "Other lines" bleeding into G.I. Joe isn't as new an idea as it appears. Street Fighter was part of the "classic" Joe line...admittedly towards the end, but it was still there in G.I. Joe packaging. WWF bled into G.I. Joe with Sgt. Slaughter. Even the NFL bled into G.I. Joe with the Fridge. The fictional Rocky Balboa came a hair's breadth from being included, as well. Matt Trakker's inclusion basically falls into the same category. Even with some of the same polarizing results (as there are many fans that certainly don't care for Sgt. Slaughter or the Fridge). Granted, we could have gotten another one of the Main Four, but I highly doubt it. They basically went the opposite end of the spectrum on that "slot" release... Not only was he not one of the top iconic Joe figures, he wasn't even a Joe. For him to have been such a gamble, I don't think if we hadn't gotten him, that he would have been a CC, SE, etc. I consider it a poor left-field decision on their part, and hope that they did indeed learn from it, and we won't be getting any more Matt Trakkers. As for the Original Street Fighter release, yes, they were under the Joe label as a sub-brand—weren't the Mortal Kombat figures as well? I had some of the MK guys, I won't lie. I think the only reason they did so at the time was that GI Joe was a much stronger brand and easier to sell the not-as-popular series under a more recognizable banner. Today, though, I don't think the 25th line is strong enough to support such a re-release of an idea, but as far as Fridge and Slaughter, they are at least considered much more "Joe" than the SF or MK sub-lines. To be honest, I do want a Sarge, as he was on the show. The Fridge, I could care less about, but think it would make way more sense to remake a Joe that was once a Joe figure, instead of sliding M. Bison into the 25th series, or Master Chief or similar nonsense. |

I'm not sure why you think Matt Trakker was such a gamble and poor decision...I've only seen him on shelves once. He's certainly not a pegwarmer, that's for sure. I'd also note...at the time that the Street Fighter figures were hitting, I would put money down that Street Fighter 2 was considerably more popular than G.I. Joe at that particular moment. We're talking about one of the most beloved, classic, influential video games of all time.
And in case you hadn't noticed, almost Trakker's entire accessory complement (which was most of the new tooling that was created for him aside from his headsculpt) actually does belong to a certain "classic" troop type that we'll almost certainly see in the future. Either way, neither one of us can state with any definitive truth what Hasbro would have done with that "slot" if it hadn't been Matt Trakker. Maybe they would've just saved that extra tooling money for the movie toy budget. I really just think people need to get over it. I don't care for most of the "Foreign Joe" tributes, myself, but I'm not getting my knickers in a knot over it. Last edited by Jmacq1; 03-05-2009 at 03:59 PM.. |

Oh yes, I'm sure because they pegwarm in one place, they pegwarm across the entire world!
I've seen far more people talking/complaining about not finding him (or even the entire wave he came in) than finding him across various boards. |

I'm not backing down that he was a poor decision, as I think it's stupid to shoehorn other properties into a Joe line that's doing it's best to stay afloat as it is. The entire Joe line is hard to find on shelves, and I think the only reason we MAY not see MT pegwarming, is that by the time it would take him to pegwarm, that the 25th line will be moved from shelves to make room for movie stuff. He's still a pretty recent addition to the line. And while I haven't seen him sitting on shelves like Python Patrol troopers or TF Flints, I've seen him in stores more often than B.A.T.s. Except I pass him up every time. The B.A.T.s go with me. Last edited by Mandingo Rex; 03-05-2009 at 04:09 PM.. |
