WHY?! Why did Hasbro not give this to Infinity Ward? Call of Duty 4 is exactly what a GI Joe IS supposed to be.

the reason is either Infinity Ward didn't want it (I'm with you, I'm a COD4 junkie and am certain they could do a kick ass game), or perhaps their proposal for the game (if they made one) didn't fall in line with either what Hasbro wanted for the game, or they simply didn't offer up enough of a guarantee. there are many reasons beyond just Hasbro arbitrarily chose not to go with them. the point is this not one of the occasions to rail on Hasbro's decision making. this game can be cool if EA provides downloadable characters not in the game, or downloadable uniforms from the 80's to play through the game in. even better would be downloadable missions based on specific issues of the comic or cartoon episodes. if EA is smart, they can make a lot of money off of this game beyond its initial sales and keep us playing it until the next game and movie come out. I don't think there would be any shortage of us to team up online to play through Operation Doomsday as Flash or Stalker in vintage or even movie-updated uniforms. that's where the real money for EA is. |

Movies Turned Videogames have 95% been crap IMO. Some of the worst videogames ever were based on movies (ET for example shows up on so many top 10 lists for worst videogame ever). For every 1 decent movie game (Super Star Wars on the SNES), theres about 10 crappy ones unfortunately. Interestingly enough, it also works the other way where most Hollywood movies based on videogames suck, a few exceptions.

Interestingly, around 2001 somebody made a GI Joe mod for Battlefield 1942 and included the Sky Hawk, Fang, Vamp and other Gi Joe vehicles. It was very promising and they even released a mini-map with one mission until HASBRO served them a cease and desist order. It was very disappointing since they even showed early renderings of Joe classics like the Sky striker and the Dragonfly and they even had the Cobra rifles from the TV show. Here's some info on it: http://compactiongames.about.com/cs/.../gijoe_mod.htm This one has pictures" http://www.megagames.com/news/show.c...ction=screens&

1. It's EA
2. It's based on a movie license. 3. It's EA making a movie licensed game. That's a recipe for disaster. I had high high hopes for a long time to play a video game version of GIJoe. Unfortunately, movie basedgames almost always suck because the developer is always rushed to get thegame completed by the time the movie releases, and the company in this case EA gas to shell out so much money for likenesses, branding, etc. The budget to actually build the game is small. Now having said that I would love to see this game kick ass, but history tells me it'll suck some serious nuggets. Quote:

Why do some many people on this site have to hate on everything? We are getting a GI JOE MOVIE! That is AWESOME! I know every one of you will go see it. If you say your not going to see it, you are a LIAR! It might be awesome or it might suck. We have absolutely no way of knowing until we see it. How many people complained about Heath Ledger playing the Joker? It seems like that worked out OK for the last Batman movie.
We are getting a GI JOE GAME! That is AWESOME! If EA makes the game similar the X-Men Legneds and Ultimate Alliance games or Mercenaries, it could be a great game. 2-4 player co-op, unlockable costumes. How could that not be fun? When was the last GI Joe game? 1990 for Nintendo? Is there anyone else as excited as me? Do happy people just not post their thoughts? Is just the crabby angry people who want to bring everyone else down that need to post? Let's here from some happy people!!! Last edited by goukisama; 02-11-2009 at 09:12 PM.. |

For every Madden that sells a shitload of copies, EA releases four craptastic games. So yeah consumers are getting wise to the fact that EA buys good development studios then kills them, passes the IP to a weaker group of developers who are rushed to get a title on the shelf in order to sell units and increase shareholders wealth. Problem is consumers are starting to realize there is this thing called the "innernet" and consumers are reading about games before dropping $60.

it has potential. just cuz some movie games suck doesnt mean they all do. and (please dont grill me for this) they proved they can put together a pretty entertaining combat game with ARMY of TWO (dont care what you think bout story or dialogue, the action was good). and im hoping itl be similar to star wars battlefront, but maybe a bit expanded.
