I assure you, Hasbro is more than happy to sacrifice your contribution if it attracts the amount of children that a popular toyline does. as much as you seem unwilling to want to admit, if the toyline is popular with children, you are irrelevant. I hate to have to be the one to break that to you. |

Actually it's kind of a brilliant marketing strategy. Hasbro tried and failed to market Joes directly to kids with both the VvV and Spytroops lines. Kids just were not interested in the toys and most adults ignored them completely. Both lines subsequently failed. The same happened with Sigma 6. Now they've introduced the 25th line but instead of marketing it to kids, they went after the 30-something crowd, who just happen to have kids. I guess the thinking is that we'll introduce our children to the GI Joe line.

I'm not saying you. I'm saying in general. I can certainly understand buying your son G.I. Joes because they are cool toys.

but do you have more money to burn than 100,000 8 year olds, or the parents of 100,000 8 year olds?

Read my prior posts and you should understand that i'm aware that growing the line is the most important thing that they can do for their success. What i've taken from the other contributors here is that so far Hasbro isn't actively marketing much to anyone it seems. I say keep the 25th running for your 30 somethings and also actively go for the children. Focusing soley on us oldtimers is a pretty limited market.

This is precisely why I only buy the boys in my family Star Wars figures. At least I know when these boys grow up, Ben Kenobi, C3PO, etc. will still be the same as they are today and the same as they were 15-20 years ago. I simply refuse to introduce them to a line that's had so many ridiculous changes over the years. I am guessing there are a lot of folks out there who feel like I do or we would have seen a lot more success with VvV or Spytroops.
G.I. Joe hasn't remained as popular because it hasn't figured out a way to draw in new children over the years, not because it hasn't appealed to their parents. by your logic, us 30 somethings wouldn't have ever been interested in G.I. Joe because they differed too drastically form the Joes our fathers played with. the success of RAH alone disputes your position, among many other examples. |
