It's not so much the look that bothers me it's just that I don't see the point in re-imagining the characters like this. They might as well just make new ones or take any of the multitude of other characters that have not yet been in the comics that really have no back story and apply that concept to them. The Oktober Guard have always been the Russian equivalent to GI Joe albeit a group they may not necessarily agree with. This is too much of a change up. It's like they are new characters.

Last thing for me on this rant. Why is everyone else effective against Cobra but the Joes. OG hammers them, full route.
Also did any one else notice Monk in the back ground of last issue? |

that's cliched writing 101. Cobra's have to be a viable threat against the Joe's to establish drama. If the Joe's easily beat them there would never be any threat. They want to introduce a new group and show them as a viable threat by taking out the bad guys, but the obvious repercussion is that Joe's seem even more lame because of it.

Lol...I was thinking the same when I saw the OG running through Cobra like it was nothing. Of course we are talking about their Operators against regular Cobra soldiers.

I really like the Cobra Title. I like that it's dark and adult, and there are all these moral ambiguities. I generally love the reimaginings of old characters that were often ignored or non-mainstream.
I would say this new OG lookbadass and cool, but they aren't recognizably the OG, and that's a bit of a shame. |

I find it so interesting to read people's opinions on the art in this issue. I went to art school and am an illustrator and I have my many influences and favorite comic book artists through the ages (my favorites primarily being from the silver age), and compared to a lot of art i see out there today (post 80s bronze age), i dig this art-as much as i can dig comic art in the digital age. I know art is subjective and everybody likes what they like for whatever reason, but as a professionally trained artist (i honestly dont like describing myself as that because it feels so pretentious), it's is interesting to read/hear someone poopoo an art style i feel has merit- not that my opinion matters AT ALL, i am just saying it's very interesting to read the negative comments about that art style.
with all that said, I would love to see an old school OG in their own mini-series Last edited by necro; 11-02-2012 at 03:31 PM.. |

I am no art expert. I think the art in Cobra is "ugly", by which I mean it seems messy, gritty, full of shadows, and at times suggests and insinuates more than it shows.
This works so well because it is a dark, nasty, shadowy, and ugly story. So I'm very happy with the art. |

this series looks fantastic! i am such a huge g.i joe comic fan and i absolutely loved the cobra series the joe comic team put out a while back... the one that featured the deep-cover mercenary "chuckles". at least from what i can see from the cover art, the art style looks the same (which im a big fan of) i love the idea of special teams and forces INSIDE the special teams and forces of cobra and gi joe. im really looking forward to getting a better look at this series =) =) =)
