all i truely know is, i can look foward to more uber negetive remarks here based on the movie for the next 2 years or longer. for all those who leave them hang on the pegs in the stores, good, i will have a big army to look foward to.
all i am saying is, try to have an open mind. just let it go, let it goe.. |

The internet is awesome in many ways, but sometimes I don't think it is worth it due to all the cynicism. On this board alone I see people bitching because figures don't look like the originals, then turn around and bitch because a figure like blowtorch doesn't have realistic enough colors, then turn around and bitch because we need more of the original characters, then turn around and bitch that we need more MASK figs, then turn around and bitch that the new movie figures are all going to look the same. It is a never ending cycle of negativity.
I see it every where, not just joe boards. People bitching about the Xmen movie, Transformers movie, new Battlestar Galactica, new Doctor Who, new anything not being just like the originals. I don't know how many times it needs to be said, but sometimes change is needed to keep lines alive.
Whether we like it or not, Transformers was a huge hit with kids and adults who aren't collectors and brought a new generation into that fold. If TF tanked there wouldn't be a GI Joe movie, no movie no merchandising to work in conjunction to bring in new fans. No new fans, the line dies for certain. So what if the movie isn't exacty the same as the cartoon or comics? How many fans of the 1964 GI Joe do you think hated the idea of the 3 3/4" team idea and claimed it was crap that had nothing to do with their kung-fu grip 12" Joes? They may have not liked it, but it brought in a huge new fandom base in the kids (like me) from the 80s. Hell I love the 82-86 figures, and think most everything after is shit, but there are people here clammoring for figures such as Crystal Ball and Raptor.
In short, I ask why we can't give the new movie and associated
line a chance, and keep an open mind? I know some people here aren't happy unless they are bitching about how terrible the new stuff is, but grow up and relax. |

If you can't take the bitching stay out of the kitchen. I will continue to bitch to we all see that the movie will do nothing more than ruin what they have already started. Hell resolute is already starting that trend, we got 2 resolute characters, a repainted firefly, a re-painted torch, and the wave contains only 1 new figure...blowtorch. With all of the movie garbage and the potential for them to do the same exact crap and only release only 1 figure out of 8 per wave for those of us who want the original stuff is rediculous.
You can have your movie line I am not saying not to make it, but deliniate it from stuff that has no place in my collection. Yes I am entitieled and yes I am bitching but hey that is me live with it! This is not communist china where they restrict what you read or say! That is what the ignore feature is for!
I want this newer figure style to complete what I lost as a kid. I do not have hardly any of my old GI JOE stuff cause I destoyed all...my fualt yes...but when I started picking these guys up it was not so I can fuel the funds for a movie and a total swicth over in the toy line. I expected it to be a tribute to the old stuff and a second chance to own what I either had or never got. Why it is so irritating that they are doing away with the Stinger and newer wave vehicles so they can give us the new movie wave garbage! ARRGGH oh well I guess I am alone in this mentaility but I don't really care LOL, the movie will suck the figures do and I will not be buying them unless I am forced to do so cause of the one figure that will never been on the shelf due to all this peg warming crap and I end up having to order (online as usual) 5 Rise of Cobra figures 2 resolute figures to get one the original Ripcord (thanks to the mvie I bet we will never see the orignal or any that appear in the movie again), Law and Order, Alley Viper, Footloose, Recondo Dialtone etc etc.
That is so going to suck with the way retail is handling waves since wave 9, you will see....

I'm sorry, take no offense, but asking Hasbro to cater to the wants of "those of us who want the original stuff" is, in your own words, ridiculous.
Hasbro originally made the line as a tribute, 25th anniversary, but they saw there was a market and are making it grow. Growth means catering to the needs/wants of those buying it today and that will continue to buy it in the future.
It's all well and good to produce figures for nostalgia. But what happens when the last "classic" figure is reproduced? People stop buying and the line dies out, never to be seen again.
Doesn't it make more sense for there to be a mix of old and new? All facets of the fanbase are covered. Some waves will only be 1 classic, some waves would be 3 or 4. But as long as the waves contain a mix of old and new, everyone has a reason to be happy.
They do the repaints because people want them. I actually like the new Firefly, I think the repaint is pretty cool. I could care less about Torch. I like Blowtorch but won't be in any hurry to get him. I like the look of the Resolutes so I'll get 'em.
Wave 12, the only figure I really wanted out of that wave was the Diver. So as far as I'm concerned, that was a wasted wave. But others wanted other figures, so they're happy.
Hasbro needs to grow the line. They need to bring in new fans. Catering to the nostaglia-crowd only is just stupid and bad business. With the movie, the new cartoon and the new comic book the potential is there to bring Joe back to it's heyday and maybe beyond.
Someday the next generation could be celebrating G.I. Joe's 50th anniversary.
But that won't happen if they just produce for "those of us that want the original stuff".

Joe Movie toys are going to have a massive ton of 25th/modern era repaints and characters with old school remolded vehicles that we have yet to get in 25th/modern era. So all of those people out there saying they are not collection better start saving some money.
Add that to all of the completely new molds and figures................ There will be plenty to collect for all sides.
Just hold off until you see whats coming. |
