Thank you! I don't understand how much negativity there is going toward figures which aren't going to be released anytime soon, which means there's always room for improvement. I believe the movie's meant to reinvent GI Joe and bring a new generation of fans to the the line, not the old cartoon. I've asked some kids if they knew what GI Joe was in a Toys R' us and they had no idea. Then I showed them a few of the figures and they said a few were kinda cool, but they looked lame. In order to bring a new generation of fans to keep the line from dying they need to make changes that attract younger people of this generation. Sorry these figures don't look like the GI Joe and Cobra you grew up with, but they are GI Joe! They look better and more GI Joe than other figures we've gotten. They even resemble the 25th sculpt. Of coarse the characters don't look like the cartoon we love. I was just as disappointed when I saw the movie pictures but these figures are the exact same thing as the current line we're getting. All they're doing is adding something new. They've added new characters and changed the look of many of the joes most times a new year starts. These look cooler than the IG's released in 2003. They even look closer to the originals than the 2003 figures. I can't understand the ignorance. Comparing these figures to the CORPS! is taking discrimination towards these figures to an extreme. These figures are so much better than the CORPS! I'd much rather get these than a repainted Torch, or Wild Bill. In my opinion they look cooler too. These are action figures meant for Kids and some collectors. These toys are made for kids! That's the target audience. There's more kids than collectors and that's the only way Hasbro will make a profit. They've got to make them sell to both crowds.

Is it just me or is the current joe line resonating with the exact same frequency as the original line? Think of it this way:
-The original line released with a small selection of figures, and they were re-released directly afterwards. The current line also featured a few select figures at the start who were also re-released directly afterwards (on single cards). -The original line started with very basic figures, and as the line went on the figures became more and more exotic. The current line started with basic figures (duke, snake, scarlet) and they are slowly becoming more exotic (croc, trakker, ect). -When the original joe movie came out, the line started to become watered down with too many odds and ends releases and licensed product. Combat heroes. Resolute. -once the original line started with the spring loaded weapons the designs started to become more and more outlandish. We recently received the B.A.T. in the dvd pack with a spring loaded missle, followed by Matt Trakker, the announcement of Alley Viper, ect. -Alley Viper signaled the death of the original line. It was simultaneously the best and the worst joe. It had an awesome kit (shield=win), a freaking cool facemask, and it was orange and blue! Unfortunately, it had a funny shield and it was orange and blue. Normally these colors on a commando would be ridiculous, but for some reason Hasbro pulled it off and figured the sky was the limit. well, they were wrong, and Alley Viper is only months away..... So yeah, this is all pretty basic, but I've definitely noticed similarities between the timeframes of the two lines. All this new movie stuff seems light years apart from the joes that started it all, just like it was in 1989. The current one is just a super condensed version of the original. Anybody familiar with novelty theory? |

You know I really want to like this new stuff but honestly I just can't.
It just can't hold up to the original stuff and the new 25th annie stuff that has come out the past year. I do like they are sticking to the 3.75" size figures...but I just don't feel the excitement and if Hasbro raises the prices nobody will buy this stuff.

I just fear that we will get clogged pegs of this movie stuff like they did with the Tf's and then we will have to wait for it ALL to be cleared out before they relaunch the good stuff again, ala TF Classics.
The TF movie crap killed TF collecting for me and ended up selling all my Classics. At least this time around Hasbro has released FAR more 25th figures than they did with the TF Classic line so I feel I can wait out the long year of movie merch. nonsense. You can only take so many "night ops" repaints. |
