Actually it does look like a proto. It's using "duke" arms, but painted like the release, which used short sleeve arms. There have been a few figures here and there like that where they paint the sample using different parts than the final release. I wonder if the red collar is an indication that they were originally going to have it as an homage to the early Marvel comics.

Two things:
On one hand there are things about this that most likely make it a legit preproduction variation. It is not a test shot (test shots aren't painted). It is either a sample figure (meaning to test the colors etc) or it is an FEP (final engineering prototype). The difference between the two can be pretty slim. This next part is what kinda puts it under 'sample' figure I think. I mean I've seen some things called FEP's that still differed from the final product so that whole 'FINAL' part sometimes isn't so final. This is RnR is a legit and documented (read as: there's a couple exactly like this RnR) preproduction figure where the wrong information was probably provided to China or the person on the other end who was provided said information screwed up and thus the sleeves weren't painted right etc etc. Hence, why they test things before they put them into full production. In that sense, it is as "authentic" as errors get. If that makes any sense. However, if the arms were not used intentionally then that's probably what lead to the paint error. The arms not the paint might be the error. Domino effect etc.

Also note that the accessories are colored differently. I have had two of these and both of them had the same accessories (including the gray belt). That is the letter "H" burned into each shoulder.

Very cool, someone got a good deal. I haven't seen this one before, but there have been pre-production "errors" like this for years now, every Joe line has had them. One of my favorites was the caucasian Stalker from the VvV Desert Patrol Squad back in 2004-5 or so.

I put in my max at that and was beat by someone else. Decided to not go higher. Should have.
