I think she has a chance of doing really well. It's hard to judge just based on appearance or previous roles. They are actors/actresses who are good at what they do and can make themselves someone else.
Just look at Kelsay Grammar as Beast. When I heard he was playing him I nearly cried but he ended up doing a great job.

If I am understanding your argument correctly you would not change much from the cartoon version? I for one was never into transformers as a kid but I loved this movie that came out recently. It was very well made and followed the same basic concept. It was made as a big movie production which is what they will do with GiJoe. I agree with 100% with the original comment on not making a sappy movie where everyone is safely falling to the earth with a parachute. It doesn't make me a sadist because I want some real life tragedies from an elite unit that is militarily developed. Let me put it this way, why is GIJOE still popular? There have been hundreds and hundreds of cartoons before and since then. I would say basic premise, the brilliant characters and the comics. The cartoon was playing to an audience of 5-10 year old kids, not adults. So essentially I am saying the cartoon was great for its audience and the comic, figures and contuity brought it to another level. I hope the story is elevated and enhanced by a big screen version. Like I said from, what I can tell it is going in the right direction.

Yes, I agree. The cartoon was cool when I was 10 years old. Watching it now I'm convinced would be ridiculous. I hope they leave that element out altogether. I am certain they will since the cartoon form the early 80's really has no bearing on the characters and the ongoing story of GI joe. It was a very small part of a large concept.

However I do understand what you are saying. You guys view the cartoon GIJOE as the 70s Adam West Batman. Which is totally fair and under that theory I would completely agree wth ignoring the cartoon when compared to the more fleshed out and adult comics. I was just saying keep the basic story structure the same: Gijoe (with Duke, Flint, Snake Eyes etc) vs. Cobra (CC, Baroness, Destro, Twins) where gijoe is an elite military squad trying to stop a huge terrorist organization. No magic glasses or made up military squad that can't seem to put their pants on right...

Yes, but I also know what you are saying about maintaining that classic 'feel'. I think the comics did a pretty good job of that in both directions.
