It would make many collectors feel undermined if the exclusives were re-released at retail. It is not the value that many are concerned about as it is the rarity that makes them feel pride with their collection. It is this way in every hobby. They all need the rarity in some figures here and there to keep collectors proud and interested (personally, i don't care and just want one of each character and I think that every collector should have them as well).

Granted he only had one figure that ever came out on a single card at retail. But even though it was a short time period, he was a major marketing tool. The most successful one they ever had. Fridge, Super Trooper, Steel Brigade, those were third tier figures that were marketing tools. He was given not one but two teams. It's like a Hall of Fame argument in baseball. He's not in the hall of fame because he didn't sustain frequency over a long period of time in the line, but he wasn't a bum either. Short burst of awesome in the grand scheme of things is still a short burst of awesome.

I don't recall every single person in the community having their faith shattered. Slaughter and Zarana were easier than hell for me to get. I logged onto my computer and bought them at the normal price.
Stop assuming that everyone has your point of view. Not everyone's hey day was the slaughter years and not everyone missed out on Zarana and Slaughter. Even beyond that, not everyone who did really is all that torn up about it. Never did I claim "everyone" agreed with me. I have a simple test. If the figure instantly starts going for way above cost on eBay upon its release and never goes down, then not enough of them were made. Do you think any of those buyers would tell you they are happy they got to pay that high premium instead of suggested retail price? I just don't find many people in my social circles who like getting raped on price. I don't hear a lot of people saying, "Thank you, sir, may I buy another?" I got most of the exclusives for the original price myself, but anyone who claims it was easy to get the HTS stuff has a questionable memory. Every HTS SDCC ordering day counts among the absolute worst online ordering experiences that I've ever had. |

All this OG talk has me wondering if an Oktober Guard comic, toon and figure line would do well in Russia today like Action Force in the UK back in the day.

Our faith has been shattered so much there isn't anyone who would bet she'll be any easier to get than Slaughter or Zarana. Therefore, I replied: Stop assuming that everyone has your point of view. Of course there were people pissed off at Slaughtergate. Obviously. My complaint is you turning many people's faiths being shattered, to everyone's faith being shattered. Quote:
It'd be a neat concept to explore. Last edited by Roshan; 05-31-2012 at 11:42 AM.. |

In this case I think the burden of proof's on you. Find me the person who will bet good money that Jinx will be easier to get than Slaughter or Zarana were at the time. Essentially meaning she won't sell out as fast from HTS as those did.

Well, she is to an extent a movie tie-in. Not directly but before the film was postponed it's obvious that despite the comic book image on the back of the card, the white Jinx was meant as a nod to the film as well. So there is a chance she would be made in film exclusive quantities like SDCC McCullen... an exclusive which is a hole in your argument actually as there's no way a Destro in a suit and a guy from the first 4 minutes of a film in armor would have sold at retail... hence it ended up an SDCC exclusive not to mention that SDCC McCullen did not sell out. Although you claim EVERY HTS experience you've had for an SDCC exclusive was horrible. See what happens when Hasbro makes too many? And the McCullen set was arguably one of the only decent things to come out of ROC and even that didn't sell em.
