I'm wondering when did they change his name to SGT. Flash?

In the many years since Hasbro last released a figure named simply Flash (1983), another company has begun producing and marketing an action figure using the same name, and so Hasbro no longer has the rights to it. Their trademark protection expired from lack of use. He was called Anthony "Flash" Gambello in the most recent release. Sgt. Flash is what they came up with for the 25th Anniversary release.

They had a similar situation a few years back in Transformers with Hot Rod.

This also explains why Stalker is now Sgt Stalker in the 25th assortment.

Interesting. I just got back into G.I. JOE this year and didn't know that. I saw they did that with Bazooka and Mutt recently too. I wonder if this is going to be a trend.

They could have at least updated his file card to reflect his rank change, but the fig still rocks!
