A day to be reminded of war's sacrifices, especially by those who were under arms, those who returned from the front and those who didn't.

To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation.

My grandfather (mother's father) was in the Navy during WWII. He survived the war but passed away when I was around 10. I'm pretty sure he was on the U.S.S. Pittsburg.

My Grandfather (Dad's dad) served in WWII. He received the Purple Heart. Was a great man. He passed in '96. I miss him greatly to this day. My dad served in Vietnam. Two tours. I highly respect both of them for what they have done.

My paternal grandfather was a SeaBee (Navy Construction Battalion) in the Pacific Theater in WWII. I know he received a Purple Heart (for quite literally being shot in the ass - a good place to get shot, if you're gonna) as well as other medals, but we don't have them or his uniforms anymore because the uncle who possessed them sold it all (along with lots of other stuff) for coke. My grandfather was among the first volunteer groups for the UDT teams, since he knew explosives well (which made 4th of July celebrations later on fun) but couldn't handle diving, got major inner-ear/directional problems.
My dad was also a vet. Volunteered in '68, and was originally trained as a LRRP and was headed to Vietnam, when his orders got changed and he went to Munich to work in counter-intelligence instead.
