If they don't get the FSS going, then I'm going to consider my Officer level membership to be a case of credit card fraud...

I think that I've been hit twice with this fraud! My cc # was used a couple of weeks ago and it was hard to track down where it was taken from. Our account was closed and got issued new cards, but now I renewed my club membership and had a $1 charge from Google that was promptly denied. Now I have another set of cards coming as my account was closed again and I will be very hesitant to use anything but a disposable credit card on their website.

Until I read the latest press release from the club, I had SOME sympathy for them, and hoped they would do the right thing. But their official response is basically 'it has to be your fault, not ours'. So my advise to anyone hit with these charges is to 1) forget about that list of hoops the club wants you to jump through... just deal with your own credit card company. But be sure you tell them where you think the problem started. And 2)... call Hasbro. The club is an official licensee of Hasbro, and there-by represents Hasbro and their brands. They need to know if any of their license-holders are giving them a black eye.

like we wernt already paying out the ass for the club memberships. just tack on an extra $900. no biggie, just the same cost as a few club exclusives.

So it was indeed the Club after all. Not blaming them entirely but I can somewhat rest assured now that the Club is partly claiming responsibility.
I was lucky my card was a debit card linked to an account that was almost empty. I try to control this account by not keeping much cash in it. Last time I had a transaction with the Club was in December and my card was hit with the $1.00 Yahoo Wallet authorization charges, twice, somewhere in January! Once in the a.m. and another at night the SAME day. Seems like someone was trying to link my card to their wallet account to make purchases. The irony is that I do not own any Yahoo Wallet accounts before. When I first discovered this, I was quite baffled as to how someone can have access to my card info. I suspected it was the Club for some time now and today I stumbled upon this news on the tank, which further confirm my suspicions! I know how to protect my billing info as I am an IT expert. I know the risks of internet transactions. I only use my own PC with a landline at home, never ever public computers or public networks or wireless. My PC is protected by latest Mcafee and other security software, I don't visit porn or other fishy sites, never click on suspicious links, ads or emails, or any other junk mail links blah blah (you all know the drill). Also, I only use this debit card with GIJCC (since they don't accept PayPal) and PayPal, and no, I do not use this card physically at other stores, gas stations, restaurants or even ATMs, I know the threats. So, that makes FunPublications the only suspect. I have since cancelled the card and got a new one. I too advise everyone to check their statements often. If you got hit by the $1.00 charge, call up your bank to cancel the card IMMEDIATELY as it's a sign of the horrors to come as your card is definitely compromised and the culprits had already registered your card for their shopping spree. The Club should definitely look into having PayPal as their payment option as this adds another layer of security for buyers. |
