In the episode where Hawk leaves and Serpentor's plan puts Shipwreck and Life-Line in charge I think it went like:
Hawk Duke Flint Beach-Head Sgt. Slaughter or maybe Slaughter was ahead of Beach-Head...

you know who you can thank for that info from hasbro? ME! and YOU! and HIM! and HER! and US! and THEM!
all of us who are plunking down change for joe toys right now. i told ms. heaux...er...my loving wife that i felt hasbro wouldnt let this movie get too far from the source material because they have too much of a financial stake in it. and im 99.99% sure alex mann has been kicked to the curb on this one. |

There were also many non-toy; off-topic groups all over different media outlets that were raising a huge stink over how they were guessing the movie was going to go down.
:checking faq: The movie's a political football right now. That's all I'm saying. I'm being very careful not to specify any further. This is a toy site and I don't think Hasbro's wants to fumble, so they're going to play it very carefully. ;) Just saying the fans have a lot more support than we know. -PJ |

My 2 cents on this....Nowhere do we hear A Real American Hero, (I understand the International market, but can't the movie makers make sever takes for use with the international market, like for us here In the good Ol' U.S. of A we get G.I. Joe A Real American Hero and lets say take 2 they say Action Force...and so on and so forth, that away each county gets treated to the same flash of memory from childhood ) Didn't I read somwhere that they called Prime in the orient Convoy in the copy they got? Mycase in point Give Us The fans a Real American Hero!!!!

I'm on board with those of you who feel slighted about the fact that Hasbro has omitted a "Real American Hero" from this project. But let's face it, this is not the first time that Hasbro has cashed in on American military popularity and then dumped it like a hot potato when the wind changed (or have we all forgotten about "Action Team"- did you ever notice how the action team symbol that the figures wore on their jumpsuits looked suspiciously like the peace symbol of the day?). Anyway, when Ronald Reagan restored pride in and support of our country and our military, Hasbro was quick to jump back on the bandwagon and cashed in BIG TIME on their "Real American Hero" line. Unfortunately, since the American soldier has once again become a touchy subject, it seems that Hasbro will once again abandon him for a "fantasy adventurer". For shame, Hasbro. For shame. Thank goodness we have those brave American soldiers that Hasbro once glorified to protect their right to once again turn their back on them. Since the title GI Joe refers specifically to the American "government issue" soldier I think we should collectively find an American non- specific film by that name to be unacceptable. Heck, with what' s going on in the world and specifically with our sodiers- what better time to create a film that glorifies their sacrifice and ignites pride in their mission. After all... if GI Joe was an elite counter terrorist strike force team then hasn't the ENTIRE American military engaged in the Middle East been transformed into a real life GI Joe?

And I might have left Claymore and Keel Haul out. But I guess your billet defined your level of authority on the Joe team, huh?

We haven't seen the movie. We haven't seen the script. We haven't even seen a plot synopsis. We've seen a press release. Hasbro has to work and compromise with Paramount on a project like this, and that's a business decision. They have a responsibility to their shareholders, not to people feeling insecure in their nationalism. You'd think someone singing a tune about the glory days of the 1980s would understand that aspect of capitalism. Even still, just because this press release - because that's all this is - doesn't specifically use the phrase "Real American Hero", that doesn't mean it won't be used in the marketing of the film. And for the record, nothing about Ronald Reagan brings the word "pride" to my mind. |
