I think this line of G.I. Joe figures will be a big hit all around, not just with old time fans like us but kids as well. JvC, Spytroops, VvV, all suffered from a lot of problems I think from the way they were packaged (two figures together forcing people to buy stuff they didn't want) to bad gimmick ideas (sound attack, action attack) to constant rehashing of current stock (too many repaints). Not to mention an almost total lack of advertising. A few CGI commercials here and there, that was it.
Even though there's no initial figures coming out in this first wave I'm jonesing for I am feeling very positive about all the decisions Hasbro has made so far with this line. First packaging the figures as singles not doubles, very smart choice. Acknowleding the COBRA army builder crowd (me included ;) ) and releasing figures like the COBRA Trooper as single card figure instead of just with the COBRA 5 pack. Pushing for a wide distribution release not just at the stores but also online on their own website. Last but not least reusing figure parts to make new figures instead of just doing repaints. Instead of getting Flint, SS v.2, SE v.2 we could have gotten straight repaints (jungle camo SE, night ops Duke, etc.) All we need now is an animated series, and even though I'm probably gonna get booed for this, I'd for one like to see GONZO Studios make it.
My next big question is how long Hasbro will keep releasing classic design figures. If the line does continue, and everyone seems confidant it will, Hasbro's use of classic character designs might continue for the rest of the line's run or only for an alloted amount of time. And I'm sure there's plenty of you fans out there who are slobbering at the thought of getting new sculpt versions of classic figures.
