G.I. Joe Live Action Movie Script Update

The Los Angeles Times has published an article on projects that writers are working night and day to complete the final scripts. Of note is the Quote from Lorenzo di Bonaventura on the G.I. Joe Movie 2009.

Quote:
"Given what's at stake and the time we have left, our writers on every project are working under inhuman amounts of pressure," said Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who is producing "G.I. Joe," Paramount Pictures' would-be tent-pole movie for summer 2009, which as of last week hadn't even been officially greenlighted.

In September, the "G.I. Joe" team hired "Collateral" scribe Stuart Beattie to begin a total overhaul of the script. Beattie turned in his first draft by the beginning of October and is now busily working on a second set of revisions, which are due back to Paramount on Oct. 31.

I think this movie is in good hands. Stuart Beetle can handle both smart and exciting stories, and Stephen Sommers is a great adventure director who can stage exciting situations and make it entertaining for all age ranges. I think this movie has a good shot at being better than Transformers, even if it doesn't have the appeal to outdraw it at the box office.

I agree with you on all points except for one. I think G.I. Joe has just as much brand recognition as Transformers does. I just want to know what the budget will be for the film. I think $150 Million is a good base. With that kind of cash behind the film Sommers and crew can do some great work and lets hope the CGI gets done over at ILM.

I'm surprised GI Joe is going to be the tent pole movie of 2009.

That's a lot of pressure...

What I'm afraid of is that movie audiences are addicted to CGI now, and will not attend comic-based movies unless it's stocked full of CGI.

I also hope they're not rushing the creative process so much that they forgot to read the comics.

Yeah. I have a bad feeling about this...rush jobs in Hollywood usually do not work out in quality's favor. I truly hope I am wrong. That guy can obviously write...fingers crossed!

I just think Transformers gave audiences something they had never seen before at that level: large "live-action" transforming robots that had only been seen prior in animation. that in-and-of-itself is far more exciting, compelling and interesting to the basic audience than a fantasy-military movie. there really isn't much G.I. Joe can do that audiences have never seen before or that hasn't been thought able to be accomplished before today's state of effects. but G.I. Joe can be a much better movie because it is ultimately about people and can have more emotional core that, combined with great effects, daring adventure scenes, and action, will make it a better movie.

but the concept of large transforming robots is more interesting from an average movie-goers perspective, IMO, than a military movie.

The best thing, in my opinion, about GI Joe was the wide array of characters from all walks of life.

I hope they translate that to film well.
