really. I thought it was kick ass action figures with great articulation, tons or removable accessories and a plethora of vehicles and other playsets to use them with. not a single person picked up a G.I. Joe figure, looked at his birthplace on the filecard, and said "whew, he's American, now I like this toyline," and would have stopped playing with the figures if Larry Hama had typed in England or Guam on the filecards.
this is such a ludicrous position. I always just assumed they were from different countries anyway-it cant be just Cobra who employs worldwide,Id hate to think the only Aussies in the GI JOE world were the Drednoks!

I don't know i guess i have a little more of an opened mind when it comes to this film. I don't have a problem with costume changes and some background changes either so long as they are not totally absurd. I mean this is gi joe guys not a movie based on a novel. This was a comic and cartoon series that started in the 80's. There needs to be updating in a lot of aspects. I've been a fan since 84 and so far i'm still holding judgement till we see some type of trailer and more movie shots.

This isn't G.I. Joe. Plain and simple. I hate saying that. I really do. And I understand the frustration that births some people's need to defend what we've heard/seen so far. People who love G.I. Joe -want- to love a G.I. Joe movie.
And it could still be a great -movie-. It will not be a great -G.I. Joe- movie. That's the sticking point for me, and the reason I tend to hate most movie adaptions of.. well.. anything not originally concieved as a movie. As someone else here already pointed out; you can make any movie you want about a special strike team fighting an evil regime. Go for it. It's a great concept. But if you're going to make a movie about the -G.I. Joe Team!- fighting -COBRA!- then you need to actually at least attempt to follow the particulars that acutally make them G.I. Joe and Cobra. Defending these changes, to me, is equivalent to defending the original Arnie Conan movie. Dressing a guy in a loincloth and calling him 'Conan' does not make him the character given to us by Robert Howard. Likewise, making up a bunch of crap and slapping 'Cobra Commander,' 'Snake Eyes,' and 'G.I. Joe' on it does not make it the property Hasbro gave us more than two decades ago. If you're not going to take strongly from the vast array of portrayals we already have, you're not actually making a Joe movie - you're making an action-military movie. That's it. And I'll see it just to find out if it's a fun movie. But this will never be G.I. Joe to me in the same way that Arnie will never be Conan, Dolph will never be He-Man, and Peter Jackson never actually made a Lord of the Rings trilogy. |

Finally some movie news!!!!
So Bonaventure thinks CC, with an actor that has showed no comitment to the character can be as good as Ledger's Joker? He must be high.

when a movie tries hard not to offend because some lousy director thinks CC's hood is too "KKK"-ish is why this film is failing and WILL fail.
you're either true to the original source material or you bastardize it. I agree with Darlon, I bailed on this movie when I saw the rubber-Batman-ala-Xmen-leather-styled suits. Sorry that's been way over done....geez! I also don't think copy-cating the Joker for the CC is going to work either. These are the same freakin executives that said, "wow Batman was dark and made $500 Trillion dollars. So how do we make Superman work? I GOT IT! we make him dark like Batman. Do these guys even read the comics? Obviously not!! I also lost interest when I heard *spoilers* that a man and a car will have a car chase....Stoooopid! |

It's like saying that when they de-americanized superman's phrase "truth ,justice, and he american way" from superman returns is what caused the movie to suck, when it was all the other things, except that tiny detail.

this is such a ludicrous position. While I don't think making the team international ruins the most basic concept of the GI Joe (good military bad guys vs bad military bad guys), I do think it represents something we're seeing happening with this film and so many other Hollywood translations....unnecessary change. I think the biggest argument against CC's hood would be the fit of the material. You'd have to mold the upper part of the hood to fit the forehead more snug. Maybe mold the eyebrows so they definition. Then the rest hands down as the hood. It would still look like his distinctive hood. They'd actually have to experiment and make it work. I just think they're not taking a very creative approach to the costumes (from what's been shown). I understand the desire to bring in new fans. What I don't understand is pretty much ignoring your longtime fans' desires and wants and just assuming they'll tag along with whatever is thrown at them, which seems to be happening to some extent. I expect CC to be wearing Sith robes in this. They're evil-looking, right? And they can hide his identity. Maybe nanobots form everone's costume? Then an EMP pulse happens at the end of the movie, and it resorts to everyone in their underwear fighting. Each person's underwear could have their country of origin's flag on it. I'm fully expecting this to happen, now and will be disappointed if it turns out differently. |

and why nobody likes Backstop -- he's Canadian, not that he is just a horrendous figure that came with an ridiculous vehicle.
though you commit an equally flawed reduction by inferring that JGL has no commitment to the character because he has stated it isn't a serious role, as if you can't be committed to a non-serious character. or are you referring to something else? |
