I was wondering about that possibility too. Your suggesting the SpyTroops tribute figures might be an exclusive... There was rumoured to be Wal-Mart exclusive Joe's earlier this year, & I still don't think there has been any word on this. WM has Transformer & Star Wars exclusives, & Target & TRU have had their share of Joe exclusives (Upcoming etc.), maybe Walmart wants part of the action finally.
Regardless, I don't care what those are for because I still won't be buying them (the VvV guys).

I really do respect all of the speculating, but isn't all of this a bit premature? We have zero idea what any of this truly represents That being said; I do tend to agree with the educated guess that these figures represent Hasbro winding down the 25th line in anticipation of the movie figures. That isn't to say that they're going to put out s**t for the next few waves, but from what I've seen repaints and redo's appear to be the order of the day.

You & me both. I have a feeling it will be a version of the "Pilot Scarlett" in a different color & maybe different gear for this comic pack.
But I am really holding out for a "Resolute" version of Scarlett when that is released in '09... |

It is too early to tell, and certainly not enough information to say with any certainty, EXCEPT that Gung Ho, Rock and Roll, Deep Six, and one of the cobra Commanders (likely the Battle Armor figure, IMO) are most likely comic pack figures due in wave 7 (November-ish) given the retailer listings. Given Hasbro's track record, I see VERY little evidence that new molds and product will just stop after this year. Keep in mind that in early 2007, in the short 6 months prior to the June release of the Transformers movie toys, Hasbro did Transformers Classics, which had 6 and 1/2 new deluxe figures, 3 new Voyager figures, 2 more new figures in a Battle Pack, 18 new minicons, and several store exclusives all as a "filler line". Given the movie toyline won't be on shelves until at least June or July of 2009, we have a solid 6 months of new releases, and in the first half of this year we had roughly 4 waves of single figures and 4 waves of comic packs released, totaling nearly 50 figures, and we didn't even have a vehicle assortment regularly available! (If the 2009 listing is correct, you are looking at another at least 8 figures, and you can bet there'll be at least one or two more waves) Point of my post? Hasbro isn't Mattel and you WILL see more new product on shelves after the holidays. Hasbro may have shifted gears to the movie push, but these guys DO work over a year ahead of where we are on the retail level.

Here's what I hope to see before the movie line begins: Three more waves of 6 (or more) figures similar to wave 9, which gave us 5 vintage Joes and 1 new figure (Ninja Ku). In all likihood we won't see many of the cooler figures after 1986, but if I don't see at least the following, I'm boycotting Hasbro's movie line:
Single Cards, Comic Packs or with Vehicles, I don't care how: 1. Zap 2. Cover Girl 3. Blowtorch 4. Recondo 5. Rip Cord 6. Footloose 7. Airtight 8. Leatherneck (the real one) 9. Low-Light 10. Dial-Tone 11. Wet Suit 12. Dr Mindbender (just paint Roadblock white, jeez) 13. Outback 14. Tunnel Rat (c'mon, if they can give us Croc Master & Star Duster--sorry, Sky Duster--they can give us Tunnel Rat) End Note: If they release these, I'll probably buy whatever stupid repaints they throw in the mix. Hell I'll even buy a kitbashed SRO pack of Thunder, Heavy Metal, and Tollbooth just to support the cause. |
