Has anyone went to Target with a cell phone, called from the toy aisle, look for something on the shelf and ask if it's in stock and see if they actually look for it?
I think it would be funny standing RIGHT there watching them not do anything, or look right at it and say nope. I would but uh, I don't use phones. |

In half-hearted defense of them, Target's comic packs around me are cheaper than anywhere else. But they're nuts charging $10 for a comic 2 pack ($5 a fig is damn good today) and then $8 for singles. Of course that may be why there are singles on the shelves now at Target. And customer service is non-existant. Although the TRUs and Wallyworlds are little better.
I got lucky and found a Rattler at my local Target. I saw the Conquest the day before, but it looks like that got snagged. The only reason I wanted a Rattler, was because I'm afraid of playing with my vintage Rattler. And if I didn't see it in the store, I wasn't going to go nuts trying to find one or pay triple, actually more than that with shipping on ebay. Screw that. Vintage ones don't go for that! Honestly I don't understand why Hasbro is making such signature toys exclusives. Are Target's sales that poor? I also don't understand why Hasbro released members of the original 13 as exclusives. They weren't exclusives in 1982. Oh well. |

Ah come on, you guys can't get pissy at Target for policies. I realize how they can implement them, although they're sorta empty policies chock full of loopholes.
I mean, have you read some of the replies on this board? I'm sure there are quite a few of us who go to the aisles and look as silly as a grown kid pitching a tantrum over not getting a lollipop. I'm a respectful collector/shopper who used to work retail a LONG time ago, and therefore I first approach them as nicely as possible. Granted, some employees are simply assholes, but if they have what you want, you sometimes have to sweettalk them. It's not like anyone's watching to keep tally, and you're not saving face otherwise. Chances are, you'll never see the same employee again as turnover is absurd in retail. Store employees usually DON'T make a ton of money, and as stupid as they can appear, they DO deal with idiots dumber than themselves. MUCH dumber. So at least give them some respect, you'd be surprised how far it can get you. I mean, you can't just go up to the doorman at a club and first off be like "dick, let me in!" You probably won't be getting anywhere like that, except sent home. My store didn't have them on the shelf (if there aren't slots on the shelf, they more than likely DON'T have them yet guys), but I had the DCPI # in hand, checked the scanner, said none were in stock. So then I went to a store employee in electronics, because it's easier for them to use the computer to pull things up. He said 2 surrounding locations had them. The closest had 2, the farthest store had 5, but I opted to go to the farther store because I figured they'd have at least ONE of each. So I drove the 11 miles to the other store, and there were 2 on the shelf. Again I asked an employee in Electronics (and yes, there aren't that many employees in the Toy Dept. at Target, Wal-Mart wins on this count, at least HAVING people in the aisles, whether helpful or not), and I nonchalantly said "Excuse me, I just came from the Mountain View store, and the guy there said you had 5 of an item in stock here, but I only see 2 on the shelf... Is there any way you can check stock for them?" Sure, lemme go check was his reply. Now, if he hadn't come back with them, I would have checked with someone else, but the guy brought me the 3 in the stockroom (2 Rattlers! there were only 2 Conquests on the shelf, plus 1 in the back) in a shopping cart, no less. Mainly because he was a small guy, but the jets are kinda big and awkward. 2 were a little warped, but 2 were pristine, so I grabbed the best 2 of each and pushed my cart to the register. Yeah, I got some funny looks, but at this point, you have to realize being an adult toy buyer is a tad silly looking to the general public, especially without a kid in tow. |

I have to say, I had the same ideas that have previously been mentioned in regards to the "we won't hold collectible items for collectors". It makes no sense logically. They clearly made these items for collectors, as is evidenced by calling them collectibles. Furthermore, they are clearly store exclusives. And so they are basically saying "we are not going to help these get into the hands of the people they are designed to be marketed towards". It's like calling about a set of floor mats, and they say "oh you sounds like a mechanic, and we can't hold automotive items for mechanics". I mean seriously, what gives?

When I have my wife call looking for these or anything else Joe related, I have her play dumb "I'm looking for some military plane toys"
If they ask, GI JOE, while reading the computer, she then says stuff like, "is that the little military figures?" or "yes, they are planes for the army guys" This throws them off. If they have them and hold them, I go in to pick them up and say "my wife had some army toys being held" We NEVER refer to them as GI JOE, Star Wars, or anything that would show knowledge of what we are looking for. |

Meh, the very concept of prempting the HUNT sickens me. The real excitement comes from going around the corner of the aisle and seeing those joyous plastic pieces waiting for me....but mostly they are not there.

Policies such as this are why I refuse to buy things like soap, dishwashing liquid, snacks, DVDs, CDs, games, fishing tackle, etc at Target. I only buy the exclusives there because they are the only store carrying them.
They lost all of my non-exclusive business some time ago with their very unfriendly policies and price gouging single-carded Joe prices. |

Well, the luck I usually have is that the pegs are empty so I ask them to look for them in the back and if they have them they bring them out. Usually the pegs are empty. |

I'm with you on that.Target is the only the retailer that has signs posted right on the Joe pegs saying they are not allowed to look for specific collectible toys from the backroom. They might as well post signs in clothing saying they are not allowed to look for certain sizes from the backroom or signs in pantry they are not allowed to look for specific flavors of consumables.Just get rid of customer service altogether.Funny thing is I used to work as an overnight backroom manager for Target years ago I know the ins and outs of their system. It really doesn't take that much time to look something up with a scan gun using the DPCI# gives you exact locations in the backroom where things are located for example Stockroom A Aisle 1 Section A Shelf 1 Location 1.Its very specific it takes no more than 2 minutes to see if you have it or not

I am actually glad that Target has the policy of not holding these for people. I mean, just go on ebay and see how these wonderful "collectors" are selling these TOYS at $100 a shot when they bought them for less than $30 to begin with. You would have more of these wonderful people buying these TOYS by the dozens and continuing to crank up the price. Eventually those of us who really only want one or two to keep and/or display will be unable to get them anywhere but online for those (*@#&%! prices. It's bad enough that people pre-ordered that many to begin with and I wish Target would have limited that as well. Thankfully I was able to buy mine at the local store for a much more reasonable price.
Saying that these TOYS are obviously meant for collectors is what one would expect to hear from a 30 year old with a bunch of toys in boxes hanging from their wall or sitting on shelves unopened. Don't get me wrong, I have my fair share of these and fall into the label but a company doesn't make TOYS, market them in stores in the TOY section where children are meant to see them if the TOYS are solely meant for collectors. They are collectible yes, but they are still children's TOYS. |
