Explain why you don't think it ever will be? Sure, the smaller vehicles are iconic and such, but the molds are there.
Years passed, this has always been brought up, for those of you new to joes, or just got back into joes due to the anniversary line, look at it this way, don't expect the Terror Dome or Flagg to ever return. During each convention during recent years someone always asks about it, the answer is always the same, sure the movie might bring a ton of fans in but I highly doubt its enough to bring back the Terror Dome or Flagg. The chances of a new gijoe hq are higher than that. Take it from joe fans who have been in the fold for a long while, the old Terror Dome and Flagg are not likely to return. If there are modular playsets that can combine to make a Terrordome maybe, but the old one? Even if a marketing person told me "hey we have the mold", I still don't think it will happen. Hasbro has a ton of molds, including that of classic, very popular vehicles, that still haven't been reissued, and are far less riskier at retail, as well as being more popular. The Terror dome is a holy grail for some but to say that most of us would buy one would be wrong, and to even say we are enough to bring it back would be wrong too. Even numerous Transformers fans worldwide couldn't bring back Beast Wars Neo Unicron, and they outnumber us exponentially. |

I think they should just bring the Terrordrome back as a TRU or Target exclusive with a limited number run, trust me they'd sell out, cause I'd buy one if not 2!

Well, a limited run number is counter productive. Yes, an item in small quantity generally creates a higher demand. But to capitalize on investment, an item must be made at maximum quantity to reduce the cost per individual item. This is why Hasbro reuses molds and characters over and over and over...
Not to mention can you imagine if the Terrordrome was only released at, say, 10,000 units. I can promise you that some fool would buy every one he could even at 130 bucks a shot and turn around and sell them at twice that, easy. You'd be creating the first run Target exclusives all over again on a much bigger scale. Talk about pissing off your fanbase. If Hasbro wanted to release the Terrordrome and produce only just enough to supply the demand, the only way to possibly do so is to set a specific preorder timetable through their store site, HTS.com, cash [or credit] up front. That way they'd know exactly how many needed to be made and everyone that wanted one would have their name on the list with the quantity desired. The cash up front of course is to make sure that some where down the road during production, half the orders don't chicken out of the deal and screw Hasbro over. It's highly unlikely that this will ever happen, however. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 07-25-2008 at 05:50 AM.. |

Well thought out, modular playsets that connect to form a larger base is the way to go here in my opinion. For GI Joe, they could really just take a building that looks like a flight hanger and just keep modifying it on the inside for different sets. I think there would be a high demand for these both as base builders and as diaroma set ups.

We all know that there would be an "uprising" if Hasbro didn't make Buzzor or Scarlet by now, but I think the best solution is to better identify potential stinkers. I feel as if any one of us could tell them which figures are probably going to sit on the pegs. Even so, they should package these stinkers into 2 packs or even 3 packs. A Drednoks 3 pack would have sold through completely in my opinion. And had they not placed Scarlett in the 5 pack or on single card and only introduced her in normal colors in the Hawk 2 pack, we probably wouldn't see those clogging up the shelves right now as well. It's an easy formula in my mind: Pack potential stinkers in with a hot figure on a two pack. We can't unfairly hold Hasbro up to an expectation of perfection, but if the marketing team did indeed say what is quoted above, then they are the broken link in the chain, and not the production numbers. |

That is Hasbro's fault for making the stinkers, overpacking them, or not selling them in a better format.

Don't get me wrong, the Terror Dome is awesome, and I would save up for it, but its not something that I see happening. |

I do like the smaller combining playsets idea. Still, I don't really even need the Terrordrome anymore now that they're giving me the Firebat.

Now, on that same note, they could consider another online retail option, say BBTS and Entertainmentearth.com, who do have the Desert and Arctic sets. Which when bought in bulk retails well over the cost of a larger playset. But since I work for neither, I couldn't tell you how many folks are actually buying the set of 10 cases. Quote:
Don't need to, its obvious the design team has a passion for what they are doing and are fans themselves. Just remember, sometimes what they decide can be overruled by corporate.

But again, you're right, not enough people trust HTS.com to ever consider making a larger purchase, with cash up front, through them.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't buy that Hasbro doesn't have more control over this. If retailers exclusively control case packouts, how is it that they all seem to agree on the same packouts when the initial wave hits retail?
Again, in the case of Buzzer, Hasbro is the party that put him on single card. Even if they couldn't put him into a 3 pack, they could have put him into a 2 pack with another new Drednok. And even after all that, I hunt for joes regularly and see the Buzzers and Serpentors eventually move...much faster then Power Ranger and Wrestling figures, so where is the the disconnect? Personally, I think Hasbro has done their economics homework and is starting a new trend of producing less for a higher price. While that makes great business sense, it stinks for the fans. |
