While I never said that there had never been a good movie written by someone who had no knowledge of the property, what I was trying to say in my earlier post was that the chance of this cartoon being something that Joe fans will enjoy is not as likely as if Hasbro Corporate had hired a writer that had some respect/nostalgia for the property. I'm sure all the fans of the characters Ellis kills off in the first five minutes would probably agree. ;-) |

according to what the cartoon writer has to say hasbro wants to destroy all the nostalgia and the characterizations we all grew up with and replace it with something entirely different. guess they did not notice the brands main market now is the nostalgic 30 somethings. they don't understand that what drew us to the joes as kids is why we still love them. instead sounds like they want a new "TONE" to gi joe. i am not sure i appreciate the "tone"

ok I have to hand out some warnings now because of the flaming going on here. So I'll make this clear right now. Next person to flame after this post gets to deal with ME personally.
Most of the time I'm calm and all, but it seems that people have caught me at a bad time. So I'm infracting anybody and everybody who flames here. |

Lol! Well, I consider myself a Star Trek fan (I own all the movies on DVD) but I was not aware of that little piece of trivia. Which two movies were they?

He watched it on 16mm from beginning to end to look for ideas and that's where he got the idea to bring back Kahn. So yeah, a creator that has a nostalgic love for the property is always nice, but you never know what kind of genius an outsider might bring in. Sometimes it works (Kahn), and sometimes it doesn't (Ang Lee's Hulk). |

yes... in other words I'm handing out cards to a lot of people here and some are friends. It is a job I have to do and I'm not putting up with it from anybody. I have way too much cleaning up to do in here now and I'm not exactly happy about it.

Nick Meyer directed and cowrote Star Trek 2 (considered by most to be the best) and STVI, which is edged out only slightly by IV.

I agree with you that the new toon could be great, but it seems to me more like it would be like a "lightning strikes twice," situation as I think the awesome Star Trek movies tend to be the exception rather than the rule. (I could point to countless terrible video game movies, for example :-P) Ellis is a talented writer, I just have my doubts as to whether that talent will translate into a good Joe toon. |
