You think we could customize that SS into Kamakura?
sure, best case scenario is that Hasbro would have created a new box set and new figures for it.

heck, this set would have been better if it was Mindbender, a Viper, Tele-Viper, Eels and Snow Serpent, but none of them have a figure mold, so they are as arbitrary as Major Bludd.

this set isn't perfect, but it isn't perfect not because Hasbro didn't make an entirely new figure to include. Hasbro had 3 figures to choose from to include as the 2nd individual character, and they made the worst choice as that decision IMO. heck, I still think the set would have been best with the black CC and a comic cobra officer in place of SS.

aside from that, I like this set for what it is, a 5 pack of repainted Cobras

I can see both sides of the discussions here, but I have to say this: Although the pack was intended as filler to hold us over until next year, there's only so many repaints a person will buy/is willing to buy. Unfortunately, if the pack doesn't sell well (which is highly doubtful), it could be a big black eye for retail. Peg warmers = less inventory ordered next time around.

Eh, at the end of the day, we can choose to either buy the set or not. I know I will because I want the Stinger Driver & Jet Pack Trooper. The rest will be eBay fodder ;)

perhaps Hasbro isn't depending on selling repaints to the same hard core customers that feel the compulsion to collect G.I. Joe. there is a huge potential market for G.I. Joe - kids - who do not buy everything, and pick and choose what they buy. of that market, there are many kids who do not own CC or SS, and this set will appeal to them on the basis of them being included. I know if I was a kid, I would prefer the black CC over the blue, and the Dragon SS over the plain white, because they just look far more menacing. and the Jet Pack Trooper would be the next figure to be most interesting. in fact, kids will probably be turned off most by the two figures collectors want the set for, the Cobra Officer and Trooper.

my point is, there is a far bigger potential for sales of this set to kids who want it for SS and CC than there is risk of collectors not buying it because they are included, so putting them in this set makes a good deal of sense -- if you look at it away from the persepctive of a hard core collector and just look at it from the perspective of a casual consumer.

I know many of us hate to admit it, but Hasbro does know what they are doing. they just have to do things sometimes that don't adhere to the stubborn collector who actually thinks every single product is made for them because they have a compulsion to purchase everything.
