Well if they go they same route as Transformers....the answer is NO!! they will stop production of the Classic (For lack of better words) and only have a movie line with movie Figs. I watched as a good line (TF Classics) got moved aside for the movie line.....to have it come back a year later. From what i read in the Q and As its the same thing they did to Transformers.......same things they said about Transformers also. We will see a Joe Movie line for a year before they bring us back round to classics.........if movie does good we will have a year of Movie GI Joes (yes some 25th joes will make an appearance but with new heads and new paint jobs related to movie of course) if it does bad I hope they have a plan.
They will however not run 2 lines together (Movie...Classic Joes) They proved this with Transformers. As a Matter of fact they did the same thing with Transformers...introduced a Classic Line geared towards the older fans right before the movie only to halt it for movie toy line......... Oh man guys you wouldn't believe it! I just came back from the future (that's where I was last night, I know you missed me) and its SUPER SWEET. Don't ask me why I didn't go further than September of 2009, I thought this was way more pertinent than seeing if I should stock up on gasoline or pork and beans for a crisis/nuclear apocalypse. Screw that, I just want some toys!
But oh man. People are going to be so happy. They didn't even change the packaging on the figures, the movie figures just have the digital pictures like they have on them now, but its of the movie characters! And you know how in the upper right hand corner of all of wave 8 (except for Major Bludd, and man... wait 'til you see how they fix him!) they have the "From the Cartoon" or "From the Comic" logo? Well, the movie figures just have "From the Movie!" in the upper right hand corner instead. These figures fit seamlessly into the 2007-2008-early 2009 figures, or Modern Era stuff, as the FUTURE calls it. Plus, the vehicles... wow. They really hit one out of the park with integrating the movie figures into the Modern Era figures. The shelf space is almost like the late '80s all over again, with how well it sells. It makes me all misty eyed. Well guys, the future was pretty sweet... but I didn't want to interrupt the flow of time, so don't ask for pictures. I nearly created a paradox when I almost met myself. Talk about awkward. (This post brought to you by: Optimism, try some today!) (PS, no I didn't go to the future, for those of you who are incredibly thick. But I can easily see the events I just mentioned, occuring. And it'd be a ton easier since they already have the packaging pretty well set, than changing stuff up.) Them taking a break from the 25th/modern era line will only drive away some collectors who will lose interest, come to their senses or start to collect something else.

Round 2 Q & A from toymania.com (raving toy maniac)
June 2008 - Every other month, Hasbro will answer five questions about their GI Joe products. Here are the questions and answers for this month: 1. Since the overwhelming demand last year, Have the quantities been increased for the SDCC exclusive this year, and will they be available on hasbrotoyshop after the show? Answer: The Destro figure last year kicked off the 25th anniversary line and we were pleasantly surprised by the demand for both Destro and the line. We have increased quantities on the exclusives and have allotted a number to be sold on HTS for folks who cannot make the convention. 2. Any chance we'll be able to purchase the protective cases on say hasbrotoyshop.com? Answer: Yes. We just finished our first run and plan on making them available at SDCC and understanding demand for this item. 3. Any chance of GI Joe Mighty Muggs? Answer: We are evaluating this for 2009, but are not ready to make an announcement on it yet. 4. What's the licensing situation for Cover Girl? Originally she couldn't have a figure because of her codename, and now she's a character in the movie. Will we be seeing a GI Joe figure of her now? Answer: We are still flushing out the movie line and don't have an answer for this right now. Give us a few months and we can give you a Cover Girl update. 5. Kenner's Star Wars collection was just 200 figures, but the Hasbro Star Wars team is now at 1,000+ figures. Knowing that, wouldn't it make sense for the GI Joe 25th Anniversary collection to continue on beyond the originally planned figures, into a "Legacy Line" or an "Expanded Universe" with waves of 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s Joes? Answer: Fans of Star Wars have been able to enjoy 1000+ figures based on 6 movies, video games, comic books, and animation. As we head towards our first movie, we are looking forward to expanding the GI Joe brand into other expressions and then bringing those expressions into action figures. However, I've got the feeling that Hasbro hasn't completely finalized their full '09 plans. That's why I feel it's important to continue to make noise about the Classic versions of our vintage Joes, and to let Hasbro know we still want them to keep coming. |

Forget about the toys for a second, Did oil go up or down, how about the dollar and the state of real estate? These would be questions I would rather have answered, but thanks for the toy update. |
