I haven't heard a thing... If they are in the movie, we don't know about it yet...

As there will be no Major BLudd, no regular Cobra trooper, no Firefly, no Crimson guard, no Hiss tank, no scottish Destro, no Flint, no silent Snake-eyes, why should we have Dreadnoks... This GI Jacques movie will also erase Zartan (as done with shipwreck)...

trust me, this is not the G.I.Joe movie you've been hoping for for 20 yrs...it's a "new continuity" with familiar names...the look, story and history have all been changed...do not get your hopes up...unless of course you like to embrace what you do not want...

No Dreadnoks! Let's establish Cobra as a credible threat before bringing in OTT cliches like 'evil biker gangs'.
And I think the movie will be as different to the comic as the cartoon was. Both told the Joe story in substantially different ways yet were accepted by fans. Why not extend the same courtesy to the film and give it a chance?

Why not extend the same courtesy to the film and give it a chance? I agree! I will extend the same courtesy. But I also reserve the right to like one better than the other. Yes, it sucks ballz that we aren't going to get the movie we were hoping for (more of a comic continuity). But, like you said, the comics and the cartoons were very different. And, from what I hear, I'm not going to be a big fan of the movie's continuity at all. I hope they prove me wrong!!! Personally, I can't wait for the reproduction of the Sunbow cartoon. These days, I'm more excited about that than I am about the movie! |

I consider myself a huge Dreadnok fan. They're amongst my favorite aspects of the GI Joe-verse. However, I'm glad that they aren't being included in this movie.
Why? Well, to be honest, a movie only has roughly 2 hours in which to tell a story. You can only have so many characters before it becomes a jumbled mess. So, I'm all for a slow and easy introduction to the characters. There will be sequels, so why should the filmakers cram everyone into the first film? As for the continuity issue, I'm fine with a new one. Each medium should have its own continuity. As was mentioned, the cartoon didn't hold to the one established in the comics. In fact, the differences were pretty drastic. Incidentally, I didn't care much for the cartoon series, but I definitely didn't begrudge it for differing from the comics. And that may be true with the movie too. I may not like the continuity they establish... but I'm not going to judge it until I actually see the movie. To me, that's the right thing to do. I'll judge the new continuity by its own merits and flaws. So, will it be "the GI Joe movie I've been waiting 20 years to see"? That doesn't exist. It's pure fantasy and always will be. I'm not requiring that the movie be identical to the comics from my childhood. Times change and visions differ between creators. I respect and understand that. As such, I'm betting that I'll enjoy the movie that results from all this. Maybe I won't enjoy everything about it, but I'd bet that I'll at least like the overall presentation.

To me it's just that film is far more ephemeral in nature than something that exists in printed form, ergo they can never truly be the same. As such, I accept the changes we've seen being made.
If GI JOE was a live action tv show (I wish!) with a guarentee of a five year run and a broad audience consisting of kids to adults, it could exhibit the depth & scope that we've seen developed by Larry Hama in the comic universe. Unfortunately, a two-hour movie that comes along (hopefully) every two or three years has to be more 'immediate' and, out of neccessity, scrimp on some of the more obscure details and change others to fit the format. It may not be ideal for fans, but if we get a series of cool action films that keep the brand alive in the public consciousness and elevate their awareness of Joe above the "just a toy" mentality then I'm fine with it.

I like you, Crimson Rage. You speak good old fashion common sense.
