Irid is correct. Not all Asians are the same. That is like having a Alabama honky playing a New York type actor. Another way to put it, it's like having Jennifer Lopez portraying Selena. She's not even Mexican. She speaks the language with difference in dialect and tone. "White Hollywood" or should I say "Jewish Hollywood" is still in the forefront and they think it's right by doing stuff like this. This is why African Americans try to put a stop to these things a long time ago.

Clive Owen is a native of England, but he's played many roles where he plays an American. Take, for example, Sin City. Does it *matter* there? No. He puts on a different accent and it's all well and good. That "Alabama honky" puts on a new accent and some different clothes, and *suddenly* he's from New York. Korean Dude puts on a ninja mask, and suddenly, he's Japanese. Quote:
That and the guy who supposedly reviewed the script said so.
Personally, I can care less if Storm Shadow used to be in Korea, also. Or that maybe SE and Baroness slept together a long time ago. Or that Duke and CC used to be buddies. As long as CC's got the right helmet, and it's a good two hours or however long, I'm alright. |

I'm not saying that an actor cannot forgo their limitations, but it is something that Hollywood does to stereotype people. For Asian people, it is more so of a cultural thing and Asians like to be represented in the correct manner. That is large part due to mannerism, heritage, pride, and self expectations that we as Asians have strive for.
There was a big stink in Mexico when the movie "Selena" came out because the Mexicans wanted someone to represent them and not from a stereotypical view that Hollywood has done for so many years. In any case, let this be the last post about this certain topic for we will disagree even more. |
