View Poll Results: Would you like extended titles for the G.I.Joe films? | |
Nope, just name them "G.I.Joe", "G.I.Joe 2", etc.
| | 29 | 25.89% | |
Yes! but not the first time around. First one should just be "G.I.Joe"
| | 58 | 51.79% | |
But of course! Even the first one should have an extended title like "Dark Sky: First Strike"
| | 25 | 22.32% | "G.I.Joe - The Movie" or "G.I.Joe - Dark Sky: First Strike"? |

As is, the Beattie script is titled "Dark Sky: First Strike", which probably is just "camouflage" ;). I mean, the Transformers script was also titled "Prime Directive" instead of "Transformers", if I remember correctly.
Still... even if "Dark Sky: First Strike" will not be part of the film's title at all, I'll ask:
Would you just call the film "G.I.Joe"? Would you call it "G.I.Joe - The Movie"? (ugh) or would you be open to something like "G.I.Joe - Dark Sky: First Strike"?
Personally, I'm all for the last option. I like extended titles like that. I HATE (HATEHATEHATEHATE) when they name sequels like they did with Spiderman, for instance: Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Spiderman 3. OH FOR PETE'S SAKE, that's so... uncivilized.
Now they are calling the new Hulk flick "The Incredible Hulk" (mainly because it is a reboot of sorts, but it still stands as a good example on how to name a sequel without the "2"). The new Punisher flick, also a reboot of sorts, will be called "Punisher: War Zone", if memory fails me not. The new Batman flick?: The Dark Knight ("Batman" nowhere to be seen, wow!). The next Superman flick, if it ever sees the light, is probably going to be called "The Man of Steel". Also, back in the day, there were rumors that Spiderman 2 would be titled "The Amazing Spiderman" and that Spiderman 3 would be "Spectacular Spiderman". That woulda been more fun.
Other examples of interesting titles are the Star Wars and Indy films:
Star Wars - Episode X: blahblahblah
Indiana Jones and the...
Or the James Bond films.
SO... you get the idea. Would you like the Joe flicks to have extended titles like that? It sounds more... "military" to me (?). As if we were saying: "Operation Desert Storm"?
Maybe the sequel could have a second title along of the lines of "Rise of Cobra" (cliché... but it works). "G.I.Joe: Rise of Cobra". But if the first flick is to be called "G.I.Joe - Dark Sky: First Strike", perhaps the second one should keep that "Tom Clancy-ness" intact and have the extended title be more, uhm, "cryptic".
VOTE NOW!

Who knows they can have spin off films (in the future) that take advantage of the GI Joe brand name and venture off into different stories.
Just like Star Wars! |

The first movie should be just plain 'G.I. Joe' and then the sequels should have names to differentiate.
And for the love of Flamongo please don't let it be something 'corntastic' as "G.I. Joe: Armies of The Night" or something.

Using the Hulk example: the first movie is "The Hulk." It files under H. The second movie is "The Incredible Hulk." It files under "I".
Or the Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan movies, which file all over the place.
Even the extended title doesn't help. Let's use the Aliens series. Story order: Alien, Aliens, Alien3, Alien Resurection. Filing order: Alien, Alien Resurection, Alien3, Aliens. Batman's even worse, but I can't remember all the titles.
So, secondary titles are great. But including enumeration really helps to keep the order: Pirates of the Caribbean, the : the curse of the Black Pearl. Pirates of the Caribbean 2, the : dead man's chest. Pirates of the Caribbean 3, the : at World's End. Story order and filing order is the same.
So to make me happy, it'll be G.I. Joe : <title>, G.I. Joe 2 : <title>, and so forth. |

it will be G.I. Joe: Underworld, and they'll be fighting the cobra vampires and MARS lycans.
get it together. |

Thank God for different opinions!
