Hollywood is often on coke, so the hell with them. Sommers I dont care for one bit, to me he's a hack.
Hasbro isnt much better since they allowed them to screw up the core storyline to fit some PC crap of todays word. Interesting enough according to early script treatments GI JOE was a comedy at one point. Then it later switched to the UK themed ACTION MAN(probably Sommers wanted more humor and James Bond storyline and just using GI JOE as his own personal toilet). Surprised the ultimate finished version we got, as half-assed and whacked as it is, couldve been much worse. My thinking is that Bay's Transformers film had something to do with Hasbro and Paramount re-thinking their original strategy and influenced them to more mimic that formula---and probably to a much lesser extent, initial fan re-reactions. Honestly, they shouldve gotten Hama on board as a consulate and or co-writer. |

He was probably more for show as some honorary nod or such. I dont consider that much as the way the movie turned out it doesnt seem he had much involvement unless he served as some spiritual adviser, heh. Plus, they deleted his minor cameo. So it doesnt say much.

I'm not surprised given how the final film ended up. For all intents and purposes (as much as people will say how "un-ARAH" like the movie supposedly is), GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra is nothing more than a given GI Joe cartoon miniseries reworked into a live action feature film.
It has all the general story elements and flow from any GI Joe 5 part, and in that sense, Snake Eyes was never a big component of the cartoon series. All said, aside from the general "cool" factor he and Storm Shadow brought to the film by being ninjas, neither character added much to the story and if anything became more of a diversion, IMO. But yeah, RoC is as much GI Joe as Super Joe or Sunbow cartoon series or comic books. They just didn't take everything verbatim like a few hardcore fans wanted them too (kind of like how X-Men, Spider-Man, Transformers, Batman, Hulk, Iron Man, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four and damn near every other comic/toy/video game adaption)

Hey all- I had some time during the holidays so i decided to watch ROC's directors commentary on my Blu-Ray- and it turns out that Paramount didn't even want or understood the importance of having Snake Eyes in the film! See this is what we are up against with movies studios not knowing crap. According to Sommers- Snake Eyes was just going to be a regular Joe with out his costume. While listening to every bodies commentary- it got me pissed off all over again, because they all were saying how they had to make us fans happy. Bull! Because if they wanted to make us happy- they would have made ARAH!

Their costume designer sure didn't make most of us happy(no offense to her), anyone remember her interview from Toyfare? In any case I'm glad Snake Eyes was actually similar to how we saw him in childhood and in the comics...though the next costume should be MOUTHLESS and MUSCLE LESS. Molded muscles and lips for the lose!

You mean to say that if I were to get the DVD that I would actually find something MORE disappointing than the movie when I hear the commentary? I am so glad I'm passing on that.

I am always amazed by studio's that know nothing about the story they are making a movie of.
