So I watched RoC the other night again. Even better the 2nd time.
Anyways... At the end, when they're leaving the PIT, I hadn't caught it the first time but over the loudspeaker you hear: "Operation: Mongoose" And the ground forces are going to base Brothers Grimm and the Howlers are going to base Roman Ruin. Great names for bases. Sounds like something that Hickman does in Marvel's Secret Warriors comic book. But anyways, as we all know a mongoose is the natural enemy of a snake, used to hunt and kill snakes. So Operation: Mongoose would seem to indicate, with the Joes forces splitting up, that they are on the hunt for Cobra. Now it would have made more sense if the ending that was in the novel made it into the movie, where CC and Destro escaped capture. I just found that pretty interesting, especially where Hasbro's continuation of the RoC universe is themed the Pursuit of Cobra. Now, don't go turning this into a "RoC sucks" thread, there's no need of it. Just keep it to speculation of what the bases could possibly be, those odd names have to mean something. Was there anything in the commentary about the end scene? And was it even in the movie theatre version? Did I just miss it the first time around?

Not that I recall. Sommers kept the comm. track pretty boring. Either way I love the theory you are going with. I think I am going to toss in the DVD to see what you are referring to. Have you tried putting on the captions to see if you get any background chatter that is not discernable?

Operation Mongoose... nice catch Troynos I missed that one. That's cool since Mongoose love to hunt Cobras that is surely an appropriate name for a mission to go after Cobra

I have two ideas as to what direction the movie will start out with.
1. Storm Shadow survives the impaling by Snake-Eyes due to having nano-mites injected into him. This will be a flash back scene as he is floating helplessly in the water. He is rescued by some new character in the middle of the arctic. Upon learning that CC and Destro are captured he stages a plan to break them out of their confinement. As far as the new bases are concerned I am speculating one of them is somewhere deep in the jungle of South America. 2. Zartan, still disguised as the president, decides to pay a personal visit to CC and Destro. With one of the Neo-Vipers still disguised as a Secret Service, they stage an ambush attack on the Flagg and slip away from the Joes by way of a hidden submarine. Making it appear that the president has been taken prisoner along the way. Just my thoughts |

This would have worked better if CC and Destro had escaped. Watching the movie their capture really appears tacked on and is poorly CG'd. As if it were an afterthought in case they couldn't get a sequel.

Troynos: I totally get and like where you are going with this. My question is, who are they going after? I mean, as far as ROC is concerned. At the end of the movie it is presumed that Destro, The Commnader and Baroness are still locked up. Now, I know that Zartan is still out there. But how aware is the Joe team of his existance?

I really hope the new movie is PoC themed. I'd love nothing more to see other characters all over the world snakehunting. A return to the Arctic with Shippy, and Snowjob would be freakin' awesome. I'd love to see the characters from RoC split up into new teams with "new" faces to work with.

The novel, and the comic adaption I belive, have CC and Destro escaping. Which makes the Operation: Mongoose ending make much more sense and gives it a larger context, the pursuit of cobra's forces. With CC, Destro and Baroness captured, it doesn't make that much sense. Because, who are they going after? I like to work off the "real" ending, lol.

I never read the novel, but I did find the comic ending interesting. The comic depicts Baroness kissing Duke, then kicking the shit outta him!! In turn escaping. How did the novel end it?

That's the problem and more evidence that the ending that appeared in theaters was not the original ending.
