I'm not suggesting that the filmmakers should go crazy with cameos or anything, but I do think they should include a handful of them to show that the GI Joe team is larger than just the ones they're focusing on in this film. Otherwise, it's going to seem a bit odd to include new Joes in later movies. It would be like, "Okay, where did that guy come from? I didn't think there were other Joes."
In order to show that the GI Joe team is more than just five or six soldiers, they really need to have some cameos in my opinion.

I agree and I'm sure there will be cameos a plenty.
(And hopefully one of those is the Sarge) |

they are already one step ahead of you. there are plenty of background Joes in more than enough scenes to reveal the size and scope of the G.I. JOE team.

Cameos work when they aren't forced. As long as they are characters in the background at most (like, in the Pit), we should be fine.
Shipwreck woulda been the only cameo with a couple lines, but I hear he's been taken out? Perhaps it's for the better. Perhaps they felt he was "forced in", like I was saying. It is often said that the X-Men films (at least the first 2) are good examples of how cameos of this type should be handled. I tend to agree.

Agree 100%. A forced cameo is so distracting from any movie. It can actually pull you out of the film. The last few Star Trek Movies are prime examples not to mention Star Wars and X-men Three or the near Cameo status of Venom in Spidey-3. But the thought of adding several dozen characters and not explaining why they are not part of the fight (in the movie) is a lot more silly than introducing new characters later!

Yeah - sounds about right gunslinger. He's a very important character for Hasbro and I don't think they'd waste him. If he'll only be there to deliver just one line, maybe it's better to remove him altogether and just introduce him the right way in the sequel.
And yeah - best place for cameos is the Pit. I'm happy they went this route.
