So anyway, the movie is what it is. The sequel is an opportunity for fans to offer more informed input. Debating what has already happened will accomplish very little. Getting angry will accomplish nothing. Offering ideas and personal views of how characters and their dynamics work and the merits of these ideas will help. Even if the ideas don't coalesce in the larger story, they may well influence the toys.
There was an obscure character in Transformers who several fans rallied around. The character didn't make it into either movie, but a fairly cool new version of that character was turned into an awesome toy recently. This is an example of how civil discussion can lead to surprising victories.
"I'm one of those people that finds heavily moderated or utterly uncritical places to be unbearable. The idea of posting on a website where every new release is met with enthusiasm fills me with dread."

They had to reinvent for the next gen...
If you think we are offended, what about when our beloved 3 3/4 inch joes came out... and the older generation yelled at their mom for leaving their toys in the dryer.
Omega, i like the idea of what your saying. Troy I understand your point. It's obvious that companies pay researchers to find out what people want before they start their project. Websites with heavy concentrations like this one/ that is easily found by google would be the first place i would stop if i was given that task as a production assistant.
With that being said, if i was looking for a general consensus and someone said, i polled four websites at 10k to 20k people each, and this is what they said... i would be like good job spike, see what else you can find out.
I don't think it could be taken to the level you believe, i don't think we would be given anything close to script approval. at best, a list of demands taken under advisement is the best we could hope for...
sending a committee to answer the question, what makes the joeverse tic would make the next movie impossible to be released, i think we should leave it up to Hama, its what he gets paid for. hopefully what you say about sommers is correct, and hopefully they will listen a little closer to Hama.
But no matter what, i will pay for tickets to the next film.
As far as Channing goes, if they would just shave that dude... i would be way happier with him.

I don't think the point of the OP is that we will get the movie we want by banding together and presenting Hasbro and the studio with the source material and direction they should use. The point is that if we do come to a consensus on a few things and and articulate that (i.e. almost no-one loves the RoC CC mask, some like it, some do love it, but the majority of fans can come to a consensus and say it should have been something closer to the hood or the chrome).
I don't believe that the opinions expressed on a message board are going to be taken that seriously by Paramount or Hasbro, however, I do believe that there are those who do read these boards to get feedback from the core fan base, or by those who are NEW fans of the property that has been created who have joined those boards.
If there are a ton of threads on each fan site about CC's mask being changed back to something closer to a hood or chrome helmet, it might merit passing on to someone who does have a say in how things go.
As it has been said, we are all different people who want different things and pleasing us all is impossible. The OP was correct in stating there are things that the majority of fans can agree on without damaging their personal 'Joe Bubble'.
God forbid another RoC thread is created, but this can be done. Come up with a list of things people would like changed and get the rest of us to comment on it. I'm sure there would be a consensus on a few changes everyone would like to see. Pit those changes against each other in poll to see how many people would weigh one change for another and then tally the most popular.
Many of us belong to multiple boards, so it isn't hard to do something similar on another board. Once the results are in, send them on to Paramount/Hasbro, or whoever. Would the changes get made? Maybe, probably not, but at least we would have done something as a community of fans to try to influence the direction instead of just bitching about it.

The only logical reasons that anyone should look back on the past is to learn from mistakes, so as not to repeat them, and figure out what was done right, and hopefully reproduce the result. In this situation, for us to look back at our reaction to RoC, implies that our reaction had an effect on the film. Did it?
I believe that Hollywood does systematically browse fanboy forums, after all, Micheal Bay was open about the fact that he read tons of blogs from Hardcore TF fans, and he did in fact incorporate some of it into the final product. Whether the TF films were good or not is a matter of opinion, but the fact is Bay did read those blogs, and he did say that the first film was much better for it. In the special features interview he said "The fans were right all along". Unfortunately, he must have stopped reading after the first film, but again, that's an opinion.
So did these blogs effect the film? Yes and no. I know that if I were making a Sailor Moon movie, something I know almost nothing about, I would want to get my hands on some source material, preferably at least a few different mediums, Cartoons, comics etc.. and I would want to know which characters resonate with the fans and why. However, the main purpose for learning the existing mythos and understanding why fans are attached to the property, is not to mimic the existing volume, it's so that as an artist, a director can hopefully understand the spirit, the essence of what these characters and their stories represent.
Once that is understood, a director can then create his own art based on his interpretation and understanding of the characters and story, while still keeping the true essence of it intact. Which I believe Sommers did, but this is my opinion.
Having said that, I would definitely want to impart to the audience my own personal message and vision. Ultimately, a very important component of any film is the Director sharing with us his interpretation of an existing Mythos. For example, My Joeverse is different from anyone else. Though it does contain elements of Sunbow, Marvel, VvV and even RoC, it will always be my vision of what G.I. Joe represents. In my heart and mind, the Characters and Mythos, represent certain ideals and concepts that I would most definitely want to share with the world.
Of course, I would have to think about target audiences, and also make sure that my vision stayed true in essence to the existing Mythos, but it would not be a direct clone of any preexisting story lines, it would be my unique expression. Not because I want it to be, but because that is an inextricable part of the artistic process.
One could argue that a director making a film has a responsibility to the fan base, to an extent I agree, this goes back to keeping the essence of the property intact, but what about the artists right to create? Does a band doing a cover of an Elvis song have a responsibility to Elvis fans to keep the song unchanged? We all have our own interpretations, heck, half the people on this forum have their own version of who these characters are and even what they look like.
Yes, Hollywood reads this stuff, and when they do, they want to know which characters and which story elements are essential to the essence of G.I. Joe. I believe that, for the most part we as fans, do a great job of expressing our opinions. Hopefully, Sommers gets it now and hopefully he will learn from his mistakes and use what he has learned to make the next film truer to the essence of G.I. Joe. But ultimately, we have to except that as an artist he can and will put his own touch on it.

it was a crummy, very poorly made movie. they'll make more crummy sequels until they stop making money. no amount of fan input is going to make the actual movies better, no matter how many nods to the cartoon or hama-verse there are. no amount of file card accuracy can make up for bad acting, screenplays, and costume designs.

First off I would say:
1.Make Baroness evil again - for keeps
2.Improve Cobra Commanders look (and get rid of the Vader voice)
3.Put a little color into the Joes outfits (I thought the video game did this well).
3.Have Storm Shadow join the joes and help Snake Eyes hunt down the real killer of the Hardmaster (PERSONAL choice!)
Now I think most fans would want Scarlett to be with Snake Eyes in the next one but Im not overly fussed about that.
