Even though the numbers favor the love for RoC I'm kinda surprised more people gave it a 1 than a 2. Just surprising that many Joe fans thought it was that terrible. I myself gave it a 2.

Are you also surprised that more people gave it a 4 than a 5?

My theory is that a lot of the 1's and 5's are "knee-jerk" votes. It's very rare to a see a movie that is so irrideemably good or bad that there is nothing worth liking or disliking, so if you look at the 2's, 3's, and 4's, I think you'll get a breakdown much closer to people's actual honest opinions.

The people that gave it a 2 liked the movie because it was GI Joe, and their love for the franchise wouldn't allow them to give it a 1. The people that gave it a 3 liked the movie overall but society has taught them in recent years to be wary of offending the vocal minority. Rather than alienate a potential friend with a positive vote they decided to give it a neutral vote to maintain the peace. The people that gave it a 4 did so because they enjoyed the movie. Their satisfaction with it is enough to sustain them and they see no need to placate other voters or make a strong statement. The people that gave it a 5 did so because they liked the movie and they're sick of Haters bashing it. They want the movie to do well in the polls so they can say once and for all that they were right and that the Haters are wrong. |

Truly I think that RoC is an atrocity that should have been aborted before being birthed upon an unsuspecting public. Stephen Sommers deserves to be shunned by the public at large and Wayans and Tatum should be ejected from the Screen Actors Guild, fitted for cement shoes and sling shot into the sun. I wish some one would develop a poll that is easier to understand because I'm sure a lot of the other disciples of the church of Larry Hama agree with me in my assessments of the abomination that is RoC. One with 2 options would do the trick, but alas, our society doesn't appreciate the Super Science it would take to create a Poll as perfect as that. |

My theory is that the people that voted 1 did so because they were so unsatisfied with the changes that were made to the mythology that the only way they could express their dissatisfaction was to give it a strong negative. Rather than admit their dissatisfaction was fanboy based they tend to hide behind the veil of quality issues.

Don't totally agree with all of it, but it's a damn good theory. |

I thought Channing Tatum was good as Duke. I've heard people say his acting was wooden, but I think Duke's character is as well.
I think Marlon Wayans did a good job as Ripcord too. Sure his character was different than the original, but I believe change is good. He added some comic relief to the movie and wasn't over the top. It was some of his best work that I've seen. IMHO, the original Jurassic Park set the standard for CG until Avatar came out. RoC was equal to most other movies, with many movies having CG inferior to RoC. The movie was written like an episode of the cartoon, which was perfect because it was a big screen adaption of the toyline the cartoon was made about. Anything more realistic would have missed the point of the source material. The pacing was very well done. There were no boring parts. The accelerator suit scene was one of if not the best action sequences of 2009. I like that SE was with SS growing up. It is more believable this way than how Hama originally presented the story as far as SE's ninja skill surpasing SS. Baroness being the Commander's brother and infected with Nanomites explains her unexplained loyalties towards the Commander from the comic as well. The Nanomite explanation also works with Destro too. |
