The numbers only get skewed when don't report them.
By saying "only 48% liked it" and not saying anything else, it makes it seem like 52% didn't like it, which isn't the case. It'd be like me saying "only 25% didn't like it", anyone reading that statement sees that and thinks "that must mean that 75% did like it", which isn't the case. To be completely accurate and not skewed one direction, when giving the results of that poll, everyone needs to give all 3 results so that it doesn't appear unbiased. (note, I forget the actual numbers, so just bear with me). Have to say "Only 48% liked it, but 25% didn't like it and the 27% were undecided" That is an accurate statement. It shows that most of the people did like it, that some didn't and lets the viewer know that there was a large chunk of undecided/middle grounders. That's what I mean when I say they use the middle to manipulate the results. By not specifying that there was a middle ground, just saying "only 48% liked it" leaves open to interpretation that 52% didn't like it.

What is the difference between a "good" movie and one people enjoyed?
If I enjoy a movie then I think that it was good. If someone doesn't enjoy a movie, then they say that it's because the movie wasn't good. If someone says that the movie they saw was just okay, then they either thought it was bad, and don't want to hurt your feelings, or they thought it was good, and they don't want to alienate you. There isn't really a middle ground. Create a poll w/one and you leave it up to interpertation. Ofcourse people are going to say that the middle votes are their's, even when more people liked it than not. I'm sorry if you didn't like the movie. I really wish everyone enjoyed it as much as me. That doesn't change the fact that RoC was a great movie that most people enjoyed. |

I count myself as the middle ground of voters where the film was not great nor was it horrible. I enjoyed it on some levels so for me thats a win. Did I want and expect more, Hell yeah! But it was what I expected when Sommers and Beattie were signed on. The casting of Channing Tatum just solidified was I was going to get.
So all said and done... I enjoyed it. |

If there wasn't a middle ground then the middle option would have no votes...it's really simple enough to understand. I know its hard to believe but some people didn't get excited enough to vote a 4 or 5. So what? You should force them to pick an option when they don't want to? Come on it's really simple guys. Just don't count the middle votes. If the question is,"according to the poll is RoC a good movie?" then I can agree with Troynos reason to count the middle votes. The question generally speaking though "Is RoC a good movie?". Count up the 1,2 votes and 4,5 votes and then there's your answer. Simple, logical, and fair. Anything else is cheating or twisting or spinning and if you have to do that then you already fail.
If I interpet what you've just written then you are agreeing with the argument I was making in that thread about that poll proving RoC was a good movie. Other posters were adding the neutral votes to the movie wasn't good votes to say that the poll proved their point even though there were more votes for the movie was good than the movie was bad. That is what sparked the need for this poll. |
