Quaid talks to ComingSoon.net about his role as Hawk
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/avatarnews.php?id=42158 Quote: One would presume that all the action in Vantage Point must have been a good warm-up for Dennis Quaid playing General Hawk Abernathy in Stephen Sommers' live action movie based on the cartoon, comics and action figures known as G.I. Joe, but Quaid admits he doesn't have a lot of action in the Paramount feature scheduled for the summer of '09. "Not so much for me in this one. Hopefully, there's going to be two more after this. I don't really have a lot to do here in the first one. I really signed up for the future as well." He told us that he's already been scanned for his action figure and "it's anatomically correct, too," he joked, but he's not involved with the romances mentioned at the Hasbro presentation a couple days ago. "I have no romances, but my aide-de-camp is a Victoria's Secret supermodel, Carolina Kournikova, her name is Cover Girl, so it can't be too serious. It's a little bit like the cartoon show and it's a little bit like a modern action film, and it's also a little like James Bond old-style back in the '60s with Specter taking over an island for it's own criminal country and a threat to the entire world. It's somewhat tongue-in-cheek and great action and it just seems like a lot of fun. I just wanted to be a part of it." End quote So Cobra Island's in the movie!? And it sounds a lot more tongue-in-cheek than I think some are hoping for. As long as Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow are bad ass then I'll be happy. |

Well, I'm glad to see he's excited about the role. Nothing worse than a actor that is just taking a paycheck. Hmm another Dennis Quaid action figure. Wonder how that'll turn out.
Still waiting for a Randy Quaid figure from Days of Thunder myself. |

well, Fidel Castro already resigned from office.
so i guess Cobra Commander is taking over the island? LOL!!! i think that's what Dennis Quaid was talking about. unless it's a remote island inhabited by ...... gasp... dinosaurs! (*Jurassic Park theme at the background*)

I'm also glad to hear that he's excited about the role. So, I wonder if Hasbro is going with the "real-scan" technology for the figures, of if it's just for their sculptors.

Either way, I can't wait to see the toys from the movie.

Ok that sounded good.
My biggest concerns? the film being *too* extreme (like any Sommers' films) or the film being *too* funny (like Transformers). And here's hoping we don't get a "Thunderbirds" turd either.

Well look at who is directing. Sommers isn't exactly known for more serious, dramatic fare.

The phrase "tongue in cheek" doesn't really bother me because, when you examine the franchise in the cold light of day, some elements are exactly that. Many of the 1960's Bond movies were also "tongue in cheek" and "larger than life", but still managed to be in ernest when it was required.
Stephen Sommers is my one, single solitary concern for this movie. But, as concerns go, by gawd it's a big one! I mean, I literally couldn't sit through all of VAN HELSING, while THE MUMMY bored me silly. If someone can convince him that CGI actually needs to look convincing before being included in a movie, it may soften the blow.
