Does anyone understand "Reactive Impact Armor". I know the MIAI Abrams tank has some sort of "reactive armor", but the way it works on the tank would kill a human.
They never explained the Impact Armor in the movie. Anyone have any theories? |

My theory is that the armor disperses the impact from the slug across the whole suit, thereby reducing any impact trauma. Of course the armor is also bullet resistant to a significant extent, using some type of advanced material.

i would assume it's like the new batman costume.protects from small caliber rounds and knife attacks and absorbs any type of blunt attacks by spreading the impact over the material.does that help any?

My theory is that the writers don't understand real military tech. They probably thought it simply sounded cool.

It might be something containing a shear-stiffening material, that would be sort of reactive: HowStuffWorks "Liquid Body Armor: Shear-thickening Fluids"

Or they were extrapolating from things that are currently being researched. Just like they did for the accelerator suits. Just like I'm pretty sure they mentioned doing in interviews (taking "real world" stuff that's experimental today and imagining what it might be like in the future). |

Interesting demo of shear thickening fluid in action.
