I'll be the first to admit, the movie was poop. Bad acting, bad story, cheesy dialogue, cool special effects followed by dumb special effects. Parts of it were definitely like watching a childhood friend get punched in the stomach repeatedly.
The title should've been "EXPLOSION!: The Movie." That being said, when I bought my ticket, I knew I wasn't getting ready to watch "Platoon". It was a "B" movie zonker with a huge budget and a couple of people I recognized. I went into this flick with the same mindset I had when I saw "Snakes on a Plane". Absolutely mindless fun, junkfood for my brains. You don't watch a Steven Seagal movie to hear Shakespeare. You want to watch him break some guys limbs six ways from Sunday. |

Let's say they remade Snakes on a Plane. Only they set it in the future so not to offend anyone with current events involving snakes on planes. And let's say they replace the plane with a space ship, and cast Dustin Diamond in Sam Jackson's role. And of course the snakes would be controlled by remote control by the kid from Two and a Half men (Sitcom kids are proven to make great movie villains.) I'm willing to bet die hard fans of Snakes on a Plane would not enjoy this film.

Braveheart (the only one I can put in any kind of order because it will always remain at the top), the Matrix, Bottle Rocket, Iron Man, Dave, Basterds, Memento, Tommy Boy, Lady in the Water, Boiler Room, Stardust, The Prestige, District B13, the whole Bourne series, Defiance, Kiss of the Dragon, Remains of the Day, To Catch a Thief, The Incredibles, Bandits, Defiance, Maverick, Casino Royale, Green Street Hooligans, Usual Suspects, The Departed, Big Daddy, 12 Angry Men... There are a lot more, but suffice it to say I like a lot of different kinds of movies.

You liked Lady In The Water and you knock the tastes of RoC fans? ;)

wasnt Lady in the Water a poor man's excuse for a Real Life RPG? After watching that movie it felt like watching a RPG on the big screen.

There are a lot more, but suffice it to say I like a lot of different kinds of movies. Like I said: Eclectic. And, are you saying you have no 'guilty pleasures'? At all? And UNBREAKABLE is my favourite M.N.S. film. I found SIXTH SESE overated (I was the only person in the cinema to guess the 'twist'), didn't rate signs or LADY IN THE WATER (haven't seen THE HAPPENING), but I consider UNBREAKABLE to be his masterpiece. Weird world, eh?

Okay, that's a good list - Some I agree with, while some have me going 'wha...?'. I do love 12 ANGRY MEN though. I love BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK. I love INHERIT THE WIND. I love RISE OF COBRA. Doesn't mean I have to place them in the same bracket, simply because they're not meant to be.

Weird world, eh? My primary contention has always been that liking RoC doesn't make it good. RoC is not a good movie. People can enjoy it, and that's cool. Liking it doesn't mean anything. Trying to argue that it was a good movie though, to me, means you can't judge a movie objectively, and hence, no taste. I've said other things too, but mostly in jest. But yeah, Unbreakable. Great movie. So what are we gonna do now that Hell is so cold?

I knew you guys were gonna jump on that one. But yeah, I liked it. I watched it at 1am while I was up sick with the flu, so who knows what state my judgement was in, but I remember enjoying it.
