Gonna say I went into this movie completely neutral.
Never watched the cartoons, only glanced at the original marvel comics. Collected some of the toys for my Marvel guys and Transformers to fight, a lot because they were just cool designs. (A disgruntled college professor who carries a chainsaw around? I'm in!) I've always been a bigger Transfan than a Joe Fan. I went in completely expecting this movie to be terrible. Basically a way to kill 2 hours. Saw it with a friend specifically so we could riff on it MST3k style. In that sense, it worked perfectly. It's way more fun with a friend than seeing it alone. As an experience, it's certainly worth while and I would probably sit through it again with a different group of friends. It's like riding a rollercoaster on a sugar high. Good? No. Fun? Oh hells yes. As a movie, it fails. I wasn't familiar with the original characters before the movie, but they didn't seem all that dynamic to me on the screen. Ok, this guy is big and he has a gun. This guy is smart and he has a computer. This guy is a badass ninja. This guy is a Wayans Brother. "Dat shit be wack, yo!" At least there weren't two of him trying to be "funny", like Skidmark and Mudbutt, the Autobots' own deformed retard paste-eaters. A bit of an aside: Must all action movies have a 'Wacky black guy' character? This isn't racist, in fact the perpetuation of said characters in movies carries unfortunate racial implications all on its own and I hope that this trope will become discredited soon. No, my beef isn't that they made Ripcord black, but it has to do with the perpetuation of Hollywood stereotypes. It wouldn't have been any less unfortunate if they'd made up a character called "Private O'Dingle" who speaks inn'a cainstant brogue and consumes nothing but Potatoes and Guiness and is constantly getting into fights. Tl;DR NOT RACIST! Did I mention I'm not racist? Because I'm not. On to the subject of toys: I collected the movie toys after seeing the movie. I even tracked down some of the G3 25th Anniversary Toys. I also thought Star Trek was a good movie, but did not immediately rush out to complete my Enterprise bridge crew. Why? The toys are... not good. Have you seen the Enterprise playset? It's a giant fabric mat. The toys themselves are about the same price as GI Joes, so why didn't I buy them? Well, besides the fact that they feature bare-bones articulation and barely any accesories save for the ones that you need to complete the giant fabric mat Enterprise. Oh yeah, did I mention it's incomplete?! The Joe line on the other hand comes loaded with accesories, even if half of those accesories are big stupid missile launchers. They're also pretty much as articulated as you can get in that scale. I'm not racist, I swear. NOT RACIST. |

Besides all the reading comprehension and such, that is...

If you think any of the aformentioned are attractive then I'm sorry England does have attractive assholes, hey what about that couple that had that show for awhile she was like a stripper or something, Jordan whatever and her husband Peter, they're not unattractive. At least better looking than the hot tranny mess that is Paris Hilton.

GAG! Although we do have Cheryl Cole, and she's certainly a peach!

As far as acting goes, I feel that certain actors (ie - quaid, Nichols), "phoned" their performances in. Rachel Nichols PITT scene felt more like someone trying to remember their lines than someone trying to convince me that she's an uber-nerd. I don't mind that they steered away from the source material, but I just wish they would've given me something meatier. Sure, we have the framework (terrorists? Check Good guys? Check), but what we don't have, IMO, is the allure that original cartoon/comic series gave us. I'll say this again, so that there's no confusion: I didn't hate the movie...but I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I'd like to see more depth in part 2, better attention to detail in relation to CGI...less changes for the sake of changes and dangit, gimme some Iron Grenadiers! It's been a long time coming, my friend. ;) |

Well, first and foremost, pointing out that the CGI can/should be better isn't subjective, it's fact. When you're basing most of the movie's effects on CGI...it's safe to say that they better be awesome. G-Force had better CGI than G.I.Joe (sad, but true).
