I liked the movie. I enjoyed my time watching it. Had it's issues, but every movie does. I walked out and thought "that was cool", which is my gauge for a fun movie.
I thought it was a good addition to the Joe mythos.

here's the points of argument...It was fun, exciting, action packed
and... the cgi was horrible, the acting was horrible, the plot was horrible So some of us went in to enjoy the movie and take it for what it was while other's went in with there pen/paper to critique every litlte aspect. Sorry, when i go to a movie, I go to be entertained, not to do draw conclusions for my thesis in media class. |

Just a statement for debate, just trying to figure why critisize someone for simply liking this movie solely because it was entertaining?

I was saying at the outset of this thread that it seemed just a repeat of others.

As an exclusive collector of GI Joe I felt the movie is the "big ambassador" of our hobbie! It showcases to a larger crowd what we the 25+ year fans are fanatic about. This I feel represented us poorly! I know that wasn't Hasbros goal (which was the first mistake) Next time can we get JJ Abrams to represent us!

the movie was terrible, i think what bothered me the most about this movie was the "feel" of it, the vehicles in this movie were terrible, i couldnt get passed the alien looking space shuttles and the deep see star wars look, the whole neo viper thing was horrid to me, it just was really bad.
the acting was alright but it wasnt anything great, this movie was for the most part a joke. it deffinetly in my opinion was not made in the gijoe fans favor. it felt rushed and not very much thought was put into it, the CGI was terrible and i just didnt care for it, the best part of the movie was when SE jumped out the plane and started beating the crap out of neo vipers, after that the movie just went downhill.

I left the theater rather underwhelmed. There wasn't anything in particular that I disliked, but I just didn't feel like I got enough. I wanted better fights between SE and SS.
I actually really liked the story and script for the most part, and I thought the acting was good enough. My problem was just that it didn't give me that adrenoline rush that TF2 did. Funny thing is though, as the days go by I find myself liking the GI Joe more more and more and the TF movie less and less. I absolutly love the movie figures, and I think that's a big reason that the movie is holding up in my mind. I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed in RoC, but I'm not thrilled either. though, I've been waiting for this movie for most of my life, so I don't think they could have met my expectations. |

Ok, I will issue the same challenge I did on the "hated the movie thread"- If you are a fan of ROC, tell me why it's good, but you CANNOT use the following reasons/ phrases: 1. It was good, but could have been better. 2. It was just great seeing Gi. Joe on the big screen! 3. My kids loved it! Sorry for those who already sick of this, but I have yet to hear a ROC fan who doesn't use at least one of these in their argument. |

However, since this is the official debate thread, I'm gonna debate you. One of the main things I didn't like about the movie was that I didn't find it very entertaining. The plot lines were thin and underdeveloped, the scenery was overly ambitious and under-developed. Sommers was asking too much of his audience. People respond with, "Well, you're asking too much, this is a kids movie". To that, I say, if this movie carried a PG rating, lacked some of the sexual-tension scenes and more violent scenes, and been targeted only at kids, I might have said, hey it wasn't bad for a kids movie. But clearly, this movie was intended for adults. You don't have someone stabbed in the back while making out with a cleavage-bearing bitch in a little kids movie. That's a grown-up thing. Quote:
Ditto here. I go to be entertained. It's hard to be entertained when the CGI is horrible, the acting is horrible, and the plot is horrible.

Ok,
One specific thing that I didn't like (among so many others) Hasbro has made it pretty clear that a key brand recognition character and a fan favorite is Snake Eyes. Ray Park was probably if not one of the best choices for the character, whos soul form of expression is his martial arts! So WTF happened, when we get the big SE scenes you can't tell wtf is happening because the action so blazing fast it gives you a headach. instead of some ground breaking, whoa Snake Eyes IS a bad ass, fight scenes we get quick cut after quick cut shakey cam BS! IT was like watching a 1000 subliminal frames spliced together. And the costume just came off as fan made rather than big budget Hollywood to me! All this combined made a what could have been SE into a WTF did they do to SE! Does anyone else feel differently about this? (Just a question for sake of debate not a challenge for sake of arguement) Last edited by BadWolf; 08-28-2009 at 06:20 PM.. |
