And that's not to say I'll watch or rate anything with joe on it, I did think it was really good. It has a marmite style was of splitting opinion, with some intelligent people liking it as well some intelligent people hating it. One of the reasons that is, I think, is because it does lack any truly objective markers of quality but is refreshingly in this day and age a film that seems to demand being rated entirely subjectively

i hope in the next movie they bring some more battle scenes to the movie with bats and vipers and just better vehicles, i would like to see some more original stuff from the ARAH days mixed in with the new figs.

thats the truth. this movie was so bad. not just as a joe movie but a action movie. there is no way this thing could of cost that much and still look this bad. TF cost less and looked way better then this crap.

Now, on the subject of gore in a kids movie... On one hand, you're right, there are a few pretty scary or gross moments. Destro's hamburgaler face comes to mind. But the best kids movies always have scary moments. Would you not take a kid to see A New Hope because of the burned bodies of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru? I'd say those charred skeletons are even creepier, and definitely scared the crap out of me as a kid, but, well, these things happen in the world. Is it not better to begin a dialogue of violence with a child in a fantasy setting than to keep children in a bubble, under a white wing, ignorant of the ugly world until they're forced to plunge into it? The latter is much more frightening to me than to show a child the occasional movie violence and TALK to him or her about it.

Eh, i have seen far worse than ROC with far greater actors in it. It was an ok movie, imo. It could have been better, but not by regressing it to be an RAH clone. Those days have come and gone, and Joe needs to move on as well. So in that respect, i like ROC for its reimagining of characters and looks, as well as vehicles that aren't mired in real world military (vamp, mauler, etc) but aren't super spacey either (Stilletto?). I have to agree with the posters above though, in the wondering where the money went....::shrug::

Keeping on the subject of the violence in ROC, do you think that's why we got the Turtle Vipers?
What I mean is, they looked so inhuman and robotic, you could get away with doing gory stuff like impaling them with a forklift, and you never even see blood. If ROC had bodies of blue shirts piling up, they might not have been able to keep the PG-13 rating. I always thought it was really wise for Sigma 6 to just have legions of B.A.T.S. in the cartoon, you could show all kinds of violence and explosions, with no humans getting hurt/killed. |

OK, I'll get things started for everyone. I did not like the movie because I felt the acting was terrible. I thought Tatum was particularly bad. Rex came in a close second only because he didn't have as much screen time. The special effects were not very convincing at times, and I felt it was less then mediocre by today's standards. .......took the words right out of my mouth....the movie was just terrible |

Agree with this reasoning perfectly, just what I was thinking. I think it's a nice change; it allowed for some really creative violence (how many Joes specialize in destroying faces??) without it getting too grotesque or frightening. Really, the turtle-vipers are like more competent Stormtroopers or those weirdos from Flash Gordon. A GI Joe film obviously needs combat and fatalities, but done in such a way as not to be really horrifying - remember my comments about the play value in the film. Something about blueshirts dying always makes me kinda uncomfortable; I mean, those people have families in perfectly American towns like Springfield. But a bunch of genetically-altered, possibly cloned robot-turtle-supermen? Perfect cannon-fodder ^_^
It's important for kids to respect and value life, human life in particular. |
