Ahhh, I've been waiting for something like this. I think it's a great idea for a thread, especially because the people who mistakenly wander into the Like or Hate threads seem hell-bent not on debate, but insult.
So I take to task, all of you who didn't like the movie: challenge my keen intellect and love of film I would say the reason I liked it is that it is an incredible realization of the cartoon into film, no small feat considering the post-Dark Knight wave of blockbusters that seem intent on making all things so unremittingly dour. GI Joe is fresh, optimistic, and full of good will. Refreshing. Yes, it is absolutely loaded with physics inadequacies and patently ridiculous inventiveness (ROBOT FISH). You know what else is? Play. When those who didn't like the film were younger, did you get out your natural science manuals before setting up your figures on the living room carpet? How wonderful for a film about toys to strive towards perfectly replicating the experience of play. Needed to explain why X and Y are fighting? Pretend some backstory. The movie does this to a Tee with its absurd flashbacks, cropping up to provide what totaled no more than five minutes of exposition in a movie loaded to the gills with inventive, physics-bending action. But that's what's so amazing about it! This is not a movie that strives for realism, this is a film that is trying to replicate a tangible experience, that I would hope we all had when we were young, free, and loaded with little plastic icons ^_^ In that sense, it's nigh-artistic. Every actor is geared towards maximum scenery-chewing, which I've always found just delightful. The only weak-link for me is Channing Tatum, who just didn't seem like he knew the kind of movie he was in. Shame. So, have at that strain of logic This is an awesome post. You've turned ROC from a cheesy movie I enjoyed into a really great piece if cinema. I thought it was nothing like what Hollywood typicaly pits out now, and now I know why. My favorite line is the one about breaking out a science manual before playing on the living room carpet. Great interpetation of the movie. I think Tatum was nervous, in interviews he said as much. He grew up playing with Joes and felt the pressure of not letting "us" down. |

While we have gotten some great movies due to "fanboys" being in charge, we also got Spider-man 3 directed by a Spidey fanboy (Mind you I was ok with the movie, but I heard a lot of dislike with it from fans)

IMO the movie didn't suck, was it great no, for me it landed somewhere in the middle... mean with the rushed pre-strike script how could you expect a lot. ...you know what it was OK...Look at some of the crap they watch on TV and then run out and buy it like crazy **I'm looking at you Pokemon and now Bakugan** so if they like those shows, then Joe is probably like Citizen Kane to them
1. Wasn't great, just ok 2. You can't expect too much 3. When compared to utter trash, this one was decent Nearly everyone who enjoyed the movie states most of not all of those three things. But it all boils down to this: the movie just wasn't that good. I'm fine with people having enjoyed themselves. I just wish everyone would man up and admit that the movie wasn't good. Quote:
Merely a subjective assumption. What 's the critieria for better? How do you know it woulda brought in more kids/collectors? How do we know the line woulda thrived more. Perhaps the line doesnt thrive more becasue the vaery foundation of Joe fandom is constantly ripping it everychance they get instead of supporting it witht he understanding that if ROC is a success then Gijoe the name is a success.
How do I know a better movie would have brought in more kids and collectors? It just makes sense. C'mon, you have to admit that. You said: The movie coming out, regardless of how bad it is, is good for the line. It logically follows that the better a movie, the bigger the following. To say anything else is kinda being ridiculous. The fact that a few fan boys are not fans of the movie has absolutely no impact on the success of RoC. Frankly, most of us who disliked the movie still saw it and paid o do so, and most of us like the toys too. Bu even if every hater refused to financially support anything RoC, we'd still be a drop in the bucket. Quote:
Iron Man was good. Dark Knight was good. Whether you liked them is subjective. Whether they were good movies, is less so. Finally, if you didn't even see the movie... well, I'm just not interested in debating you anymore. Go see the movie. When you come back and say "wow, that sucked", I'll be here to say "I told you so".

the movie was amazing, thats not just my personal opinion - its a FACT.
If you disagree with that then you are a smelly bum bum face.FACT. If you thought Tatum was wooden then you have obviously never seen a movie starring Keanu Reeves.FACT. If you dont think that I am the coolest guy in the world then you are seriously deranged.FACT. .....actually the 3rd one down is true......

ROC wasn't good...
It was GREAT. It was awesome in Spiderman 3 when Emo-Peter went walking down the street, and Harry Osborn really stole the show after that blow to the head. |

Good or bad I would wager that the movie will go down in history as one of the most thoroughly debated films ever made.

I thought the scene of Emo-Peter walking down the street trying to be cool was so damn stupid. It made me cringe, literally.
I thought RoC was good. Could it have been better? Sure, but I can say that about every single movie ever made, there's always something that could be improved on. I could say that about all my favorite movies. No one can judge anything about the movie if it had been done differently, there's not enough information to tell. "If it had been better" is a purely subjective term, because to alot of people the movie was done better. I personally think that if it had been more ARAH, it would have turned off alot of the non-Joe fan movie goers. But that's my opinion. Neither right or wrong. Nothing to back it up just like there's nothing to back up the "if it had been better" arguement.
