RoC lovers are always trying to get haters to compare it to the worst aspects of the cartoon. Doesn't that say something about the quality of a $170 million live action movie made in the 21st century, that in order to feel like a fair comparison it has to be compared to the worst aspects of a children's cartoon made 20 years ago?!
Im not sure What else we are supposed to compare it to? Isn't that kinda the reason it was made? Last edited by dj7000; 08-29-2009 at 12:25 AM.. |

I never thought this film would be so polarizing to some of the extremes I've read here. I enjoyed ROC for the most part, but I can see why others disliked it. There are certainly improvements that could be made in a sequel, but I honestly don't want to see this "new universe" rebooted just yet

I completely agree, and this was one of the biggest gripes I had with the movie. People kept raving about the SE/SS fights, but frankly they weren't all that good because you could hardly tell what was going on. It's a silly way to get around having to actually choreograph a good fight.

I really enjoyed ROC. I thought it had great action sequences and the acting was pretty good. It was nice to see GI Joe come alive after all of these years. So many people gripe that this sucks and it isn't worth the money, and they are entitled to their opinions. But if you look at it from a different view, you might enjoy it more. This isn't the cartoon. This isn't the comic. This is the live action movie and just like the differences from the sunbow cartoon to Resolute, GI Joe is changing and getting better...

To Everyone
One more thing about the movie that is a positive whether you hated, liked, or loved the movie is this, kids are actually excited about G.I. Joe toys and G.I. Joe in general. Since the movie has come out I have been making my stops at TRU, Wal Mart, and Target looking for a few RoC figures and I have seen kids actually yelling to their Dad or Mom: "Look they have G.I. Joe, can I ge one." With the 25th line the only people yelling to their parents about G.I. Joe were the 30 year olds trying to get the non-existent figures from the pegs. Yeah I liked the 25th line better, but the RoC line has some cool figures and if the movie helps keep Joe around in stores and in the public eye then I'm happy. We know Hasbro will throw us the collector's some Joe goodness, that we will like once in awhile and I'm cool with that. We sure as hell weren't going to keep G.I. Joe alive, so if another generation gets into Joe then it makes me happy. Just seeing the kids get excited about G.I. Joe toys makes me realize why I still like Joe, because I was that kid 20 something years ago trying to get that Snake Eyes or any other Joe figure for that matter and that is why I still like Joe, because it takes me back to those memories of G.I. Joe from when I was a kid and now another generation might get that same experience and that my friends is a win in my book |

i really tried to watch this movie and take it for what it is and just enjoy it and i thought the begining of the movie was alright but it just got really weak to me.
i hear people complaining about the acting but i didnt think it was bad, there were faults in there but for the most part it was fine to me and i thought duke was the best charactor in my opinion. like ive said before my biggest gripe with this movie was the feel of the vehicles and i really did not like the neo vipers, i understand this is a live action movie and they are trying to take gijoe to some new platform but i still think they should have kept the OG viper as the main battle troops along with regular troops like from the cartoon, also this movie would of been alot cooler if original vehicles were in the movie like hisstanks and so on, the only one that stuck out to me was the night raven, i do not like the new take with the accelarator suits, its just going too far in my opinion, it doesnt have a gijoe feel to me. also the whole underwater scene was super lame, i think thats what killed it for me, it felt way too star wars or alien to me, it just didnt sit right with me.

I never really compared ROC to the cartoon.
Even as a kid, I thought the cartoon was silly, it was kinda cheesy that every time a plane was blown up they had to make a point to show the pilot parachuting to safety. I know, I know, Parent's groups would have been pissed, it wasn't Sunbow, DIC, or who ever the hell's fault. I did however enjoy the animated movie, of course I haven't seen it in a while. I got all my Joe history as a kid from the file cards. Take Destro, he simply sold his arms to the highest bidder, if the Joe's paid him more $, he would have worked for them. This is what Buzzer's filecard said- "Years of intellectual displeasure caused repressed psychotic anger, manifested in an intense desire to chainsaw apart expensive geegaws of technological society." That's the kind of s#%* that can blow a 9yr old's mind! It's the kind of thing that made me pass on M.A.S.K., Transformers, Centurions, Crystar, Go-Bots, Silverhawks and Thundercats. But I guess, the 80's are over, it's the 21st Century, and we gotta dumb everything down. Last edited by Beckley; 08-29-2009 at 01:53 AM.. |

That post was really aimed at those who keep asking "How can you like the cartoon and trash the movie? If you liked the cartoon you MUST like the movie because the cartoon was super cheesy and had a silly plot and bad dialogue and huge plot holes too!" That post is my reply.
