Add 5.50 to your box office total. I saw it today.
Awful. Just awful. A kids' movie. Oh, and to the screenwriters: ICE FLOATS. |

Why are people having such a hard time with the 300 mil-325 price tag?
Think about the HUGE amount of ads for the flop, and to Shin Gouki: Don't you hate it when people say "whats the color blue look like?" and then you show them the color blue, and they say, "That's not the color blue!" |

Think about the HUGE amount of ads for the flop, and to Shin Gouki: Don't you hate it when people say "whats the color blue look like?" and then you show them the color blue, and they say, "That's not the color blue!" it is certainly a box office disappointment, but there is no need to dishonestly exaggerate that to make a point when the movie's performance shortcomings stand on their own. What amount of money lost on a movie makes it a flop?
I like to know your personal definition. |

If it makes a profit, it's not a flop, pure and simple. RoC was a box office success, not hit, but success. Box office wise (# of people that went and saw it), it absolutely killed D9. It'll be #10 summer movie by the end of the week (it was only 100000 off the other day). It made 500,000+ on a monday after school (majority of the country) had started and movie theaters were down to their school schedule (less showings). It premiered in august, so had less of the summer to work with, and it's the #10 (and maybe if it keeps chugging along like it has been) movie of the summer. So really, how is that a flop? So when you say the sky is blue, please make sure you're actually pointing at a blue sky.

An important thing to remember is the amount of screens a movie shows on. D-9 had a fraction of thye screens Joe did, has already made a ton of money with zero ads and certainly not action figures. Hollywood does not put over 300 million into a movie hoping that it will break even. Compared to the other BIG movies that showed on a LARGE number of screens Joe did pathetically, look at the numbers for Potter and transformers both of which are close to $900 mil. |

The problem is not the movies fault, it's actually paramounts for using such a huge budget when they really didn't need to. Quote:
Potter is HUGE, much much much huger then G.I. Joe ever got. Potter has a larger demographic (teen girls, which Joe wouldn't have attracted; also young girls, Joe is a boys movie, Potter appeals to both). Transformers was a surprise. I don't know how many times it can be said. It was box office lightning, and lighting doesn't strike very often. To expect Joe to do what Transformers did, no one thought it would do that. HOPED yes, THOUGHT, no. If the movie had flopped, I'd have no problem saying it flopped, regardless of how much I liked it. But it didn't flop. So what is so hard to admit that the movie did pretty good? Heck, it's still in theatres. It hasnt' even hit the second run theatres.

Everything so far that I have found refers back to Mr. Fritz, an entertainment writer for the LA Times. My previous point about Paramount demanding a retraction if it was not true is still valid, as is the fact that most news outlets pick up a story from one main source that is trusted and go with it. I honestly doubt I will be able to find a seperate source for this figure, but like I said if it was false Paramount would have raised a big stink.
In the end I tire of this. You beleave what you will, I will believe what I do and we shall agree to disagree. Seriously, I was teasing you......you dont have to get all catty...... Last edited by Rocky; 09-04-2009 at 03:59 PM.. |

Ok I don't want to quote that huge passage, but this is basically a point of word semantics:
I feel that putting over 300 mil. into a movie and that said movie doesn't profit anything, that is a flop. To you that makes a bad movie, right? I am comparing Potter and tF just because it is a similar budget and number of screens. |
